Salmon Kings Silence Thunder

Stockton, CA - The Salmon Kings wrapped up their three game road swing on Saturday night in when they met the Thunder. The Kings would start goaltender Todd Ford and the Thunder would counter with Bryan Pitton in front of a sell-out crowd of 9,737 at the Stockton Arena.

The first period saw Thunder goaltender Bryan Pitton steal the show with acrobatic saves to deny the Salmon Kings throughout the first. It was 0-0 after the one.

The second period would be a different story. Olivier Filion took a pass from Scott Howes and fired a shot from just inside the right circle past the blocker shoulder of Pitton for the 1-0 lead. Victoria made it 2-0 when Curtis Billsten used the Thunder defender as a screen a snapped a wrist shot past Pitton. The Thunder would respond late in the frame while on a 5-on-3 power play. Ryan MacMurchy would tip a Neil Petruic shot from the high slot to cut the Salmon Kings lead in half. Victoria would lead 2-1 after 40 minutes.

The third period was riddled with penalties for both teams. Neither power play was effective in the final frame, but the Kings would add an empty net shorthanded marker courtesy of Shaun Landolt in the game's final seconds. Salmon Kings 3 Thunder 1.

Victoria went 0-8=0% on the power play and Stockton ended 1-9=11.1%. The Salmon Kings out shot the Thunder 27-25.
