Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, MS - After forty scoreless minutes, the Mississippi Sea Wolves found themselves down by a 3-1 score to the Wheeling Nailers before Mathieu Melanson scored three goals in under five minutes as Mississippi pulled out a 4-3 overtime win on Sunday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
Wheeling got on the board first when Aaron Clarke potted his 7th goal of the season , hammering home the rebound of Tommy Goebel's shot just 1:07 into the third period. Ryan Cruthers evened the game at one just 58 seconds later when he ripped a wrist shot past Wheeling goaltender David Brown.
Rob Sirianni notched his first of the game and seventh of the season at 3:45, blasting a one-timer past the Sea Wolves' Ryan Munce at 3:45. Sirianni would bury his second of the game from the low slot with Wheeling on the man-advantage to give the Nailers a 3-1 lead.
With less than two minutes remaining, Bill LeClerc hit Matheiu Melanson at the blueline with a pass and Melanson buried a wrist shot from the top of the slot to draw Mississippi within one. The Sea Wolves found themselves shorthanded after Pat Oliveto took a holding minor while Mississippi aggressively forechecked in the offensive zone at 19:28 of the third period. With the faceoff coming to Munce's right, the Pack won the draw and fed the puck up the right side to Melanson, who broke down the right wing and fired a shot off the inside of Brown's right pad to tie the game at 19:36 of the third period.
After killing off the remainder of Oliveto's minor penalty, Jason Tejchma fed the puck up the right wing to Melanson who again fired the puck under the pads of Brown for the game-winner at 2:41 of the overtime.
