Dayton Bombers News Release

Reading, PA - The Dayton Bombers scored three power play goals in the third period to top the Reading Royals 5-2 for their third straight victory.

Although the Royals were the first to score in the game, defenseman Joe Van Culin evened the score at 4:21 off an unassisted goal, his first of the season. Reading would take a 2-1 lead in the first as Brock Hooten was awarded a penalty shot following a short-handed breakaway, slipping the puck past Bombers goaltender David Shantz. The Royals had outshot the Bombers 16-8 in the opening period.

The Bombers took control offensively in the second, firing 17 shots at the Royals' Danny Taylor compared to Reading's 4. Ryan Smyth tallied the lone goal of the period to even the score at two a piece.

Despite being unable to convert on earlier power play opportunities, the Bombers broke the 2-2 stalemate when Greg Labenski scored his third goal of the season from Dominic D'Amour and Nino Musitelli on the man advantage. Just a minute and a half later Jarret Lukin netted his third of the year from Musitelli and D'Amour, followed 30 seconds later by Christian Gaudet's first goal as a Bomber, with helpers from Lukin and Dan Riedel. The Bombers' trio of power play goals in 2:12 sets a season record.

Shantz finished the night making 28 of 30 saves, while Reading's Taylor was 34 of 39. The Bombers were 3 of 13 on the power play and a perfect 6 of 6 on the penalty kill.
