Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today the team has acquired rookie forward Matt McKnight in a trade for future considerations with the Las Vegas Wranglers and traded forward Dan Eves to Trenton, also for future considerations.

Steelheads Head Coach Derek Laxdal said the moves are being made to spark the team's offense following a three-game homestand against the Alaska Aces where Idaho scored only three times.

A 2004 Dallas Stars draft pick, McKnight, 24, has seen action in four games this, his first professional season, and has notched one assist and four penalty minutes for the Wranglers. The 6-foot, 190-pound Alberta native played four years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth from 2004 to 2008, placing second on the team in scoring as a sophmore (9g-16) and as a senior (6g-10a). During his junior and season seasons, McKnight captained the team and finished his collegiate career with 69 points (25g-44a) and 69 PIMS. He attended training camp to start this season with Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.

Eves, a 6-foot-2 and 215-pound forward, was also playing in his rookie season this year, tallying one assist with no PIMS in eight games as a Steelhead. The 22-year-old out of Lake Superior State University, scored 63 points (29g-34a) and 229 PIMS for his NCAA career. The Michigan native was named LSSU Freshman of the Year in 2004-05 and is a two-time winner of the Soo BlueLiners Award (2006-07 and 2007-08).

Of Note: Forward Jimmy Kerr was placed on the 30-day injured reserve list following an elbow to the head by Aces left wing Robin Richards during the game on Nov. 6. Richards was assessed a game misconduct under Rule 46.5 Elbowing at 12:00 of the second period, and after review, was subsequently fined an undisclosed amount and suspended for six games by the ECHL office.
