
Nanita Has Two Hits But Fisher Cats Fall in Portland

(Portland, ME)-Ricardo Nanita, Anthony Gose and Travis d'Arnaud each had two hits but the Fisher Cats fell to the Sea Dogs 7-3 in the opener of a four-game series on Monday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine.
The Sea Dogs, in snapping a four-game losing streak, opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when catcher Tim Federowicz (1-for-4, 2 RBI) doubled home Chih-Hsien Chiang, who had reached on a fielders choice.
Portland (13-27) extended the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Jeremy Hazelbaker and Alex Hassan drew walks and Chiang singled home Hazelbaker to make it 2-0. Federowicz grounded into a fielders choice as Hassan scored and Will Middlebrooks homered for a 5-0 lead.
The Sea Dogs added to the lead in the last of the fourth. Mitch Dening singled and scored on a double by Hazelbaker (2-for-3, 2R, RBI), who then scored on a double by Hassan to put Portland up 7-0.
Zach Stewart (3-3) took the loss for the Fisher Cats, allowing seven runs on eight hits in four innings. He walked four and struck out four.
New Hampshire (27-16) scored its first run in the top of the fifth inning on consecutive two-out doubles by Darin Mastroianni and Gose to make it 7-1.
The Fisher Cats added a run in the top of the sixth inning. Ricardo Nanita (2-for-3) reached on an error and scored on a double by Craig Stansberry.
Stephen Fife (5-2) earned the win for Portland, working the first six innings, allowing six hits and one run. He struck out six without walking a batter.
The final run for the Fisher Cats came in the top of the ninth inning. Gose walked, d'Arnaud doubled and Mike McDade extended his hit streak to seven games with an RBI single off reliever Santo Luis.
New Hampshire's bullpen had a good night with Yohan Pino, Mike Hinckley and Bobby Korecky combining to pitch four shutout innings.
The Fisher Cats continue the four-game series in Portland on Tuesday night at 6:00pm. RHP Rey Gonzalez (5-1, 1.42) will start for New Hampshire against RHP Michael Lee (1-3, 4.32) for the Sea Dogs. Radio coverage with Bob Lipman begins at 5:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
