Altoona, Pa. - After losing two games over the weekend and scoring just three runs total, the Baysox got off to a fast start against the first place Altoona Curve, winning 7-3. The win moves the Baysox back to .500 at 21-21.

The top of the Baysox lineup continued to get on base and in position to score runs and the middle and bottom of the Baysox lineup answered by driving in more runs than the Baysox have scored since May 6.

Designated hitter Robbie Widlansky drove in two more runs, increasing his team leading RBI total to 26 and right fielder LJ Hoes, playing in his first game after joining the team on Monday, recorded an RBI double in his first at bat with the Baysox this season.

The Baysox scored four runs against Jeff Locke in the top of the first inning. Center fielder Xavier Avery hit a lead off double to left field and second baseman Greg Miclat singled on a bunt to first base that moved Avery to third. Widlansky reached first on a fielder's choice when Avery was thrown out at home and Miclat moved to second where he would score on a single to right field by catcher Caleb Joseph. Third baseman Brandon Waring struck out for the second out of the inning, but shortstop Pedro Florimon then drove in two runs with a single to left field. Florimon would move to third on the play after a throwing error by the third baseman Jeremy Farrell and he scored on a double by Hoes to make the score 4-0.

Bowie added another run in the top of the second inning after Avery recorded his second hit of the game, a single to right field. Miclat then grounded out, but moved Avery to second before he stole third for his 19th stolen base of the season and the 100th of his career. After Widlansky drew a walk, Avery scored on a sacrifice fly by Joseph to give the Baysox a 5-0 lead.

The Curve got back in the game with two runs on right-handed starting pitcher Zach Clark in the bottom of the second inning. After retiring the first two batters, Clark ran into trouble when he surrendered a single to left field by Kris Watts and a single by Miles Durham to shortstop that put two runners on. Eric Fryer then singled to shortstop and Watts scored on a missed catch error by first baseman Billy Rowell. The second run of the inning came when Brock Holt singled to left field to drive in Durham from second to make the score 5-2.

Altoona scored one more run on Clark in the bottom of the fourth inning. Watts doubled to right field with one out and moved to third when Durham grounded out. Fryer plated Watts with an infield single to second base to make the score 5-3.

The Baysox tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth inning against Anthony Claggett. Rowell hit a lead off single to left field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Avery. Carlos Rojas entered the game as a pinch-runner for Rowell and after Miclat drew a walk Matt McSwain entered the game in relief of Claggett. Widlansky then drove in both base runners with a line drive to right field to give the Baysox a 7-3 win.

Clark pitched six and two-thirds innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits while striking out four and earning his team-leading fifth win of the season. Left-handed reliever Cole McCurry pitched one and two-thirds innings in relief of Clark and allowed one hit and no runs while walking three and striking out two. Right-handed closer Jose Diaz recorded his Eastern League leading 13th save of the season by recording the last two outs of the game without allowing a hit.

After struggling to string together even two hits over the weekend, the Baysox offense recorded five hits in the top of the first inning as they began an offensive outburst. Hitting in the middle of Bowie's offense, Widlansky and Joseph stepped up and each recorded two-RBI games.

The Baysox last game and last victory against Altoona came during the last week of the regular season in 2010. Bowie won the game 7-3 and scored all seven runs against Locke. Monday, Bowie again faced Locke and again had a big game, scoring five runs on Locke en route to a victory.

The Baysox began an eight-game road trip starting Monday, May 23, but return home for a seven game homestand Tuesday, May 31. For more information on Baysox promotions and theme nights, visit www.baysox.com.
