Wheeling Nailers News Release

ELMIRA, NY- For the second straight game, the Wheeling Nailers put together a comeback against the Elmira Jackals, rallying to even the score 3-3 in the third period. However, this time, the Jackals didn't let the end result slip completely away, rallying back for three goals in a 6-3 win at First Arena. Mike Seidel had a hat trick for Elmira, who was 3-for-7 on the power play.

One goal was scored during the opening period, and it was tallied while the teams were skating 4-on-4. Mike Seidel took a pass in center ice from Allan McPherson, and proceeded to burst up the right side. Once he got to the circle, Seidel cut toward the slot, keeping the puck on his backhand, ultimately roofing a shot into the top-right corner of the goal.

The second period took a different spin, as the two sides exchanged two goals each. Elmira took a two-goal advantage at the 3:38 mark, when Seidel redirected Nick Tuzzolino's wrist shot from the left point. 1:07 later, the Nailers registered their first goal of the contest. Bobby Shea dribbled a pass across the blueline to Nick D'Agostino, who faked out a defender, before sniping a shot from the left face-off dot. Allan McPherson's power play tally at 8:21 made the score 3-1 in favor of the home team, but Wheeling responded with an answer 46 seconds later. Zack Torquato gathered the puck in the left circle, before skating to the slot, and picking the top-left corner of the cage.

The Nailers eventually pulled even at the 4:56 mark, capitalizing on a two-man advantage. Riley Brace slipped a pass through the crease to Max MacKay, who hammered in the goal from the side of the left post. Unfortunately for Wheeling, the rest of the celebrating was done by the Jackals, who stormed back with three goals. Steven Shamanski smoked a shot from the top of the left circle on the power play with 6:49 to go, breaking the deadlock, before Mike Seidel and Taylor Stefishen added insurance goals for a 6-3 final score.

Travis Fullerton was the winning netminder for Elmira, making 25 saves on 28 shots. Franky Palazzese suffered the loss, turning away 27 of the 33 shots he faced.

The Nailers will visit the Jackals again on Sunday at 4:05, before returning home on Wednesday to face the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05. For tickets and more information, call (304) 234-GOAL.
