Indy Fuel News Release
READING, PA - In the first of eight head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel were defeated by the Reading Royals by a final score of 4-3 on Saturday at Santander Arena in Reading Pennsylvania. With the loss, the Fuel fell to 3-6-2-1 overall this season and with nine points, remain alone in seventh place in the ECHL's North Division standings.
After a scoreless first period, Kirill Gotovets broke the ice for the Fuel at 8:51 of the second with his first-career professional goal, assisted by Nick Bruneteau and Dean Chelios, to make it 1-0 Fuel. Indy pushed the lead to 2-0 at 14:36 when Fuel defenseman Justin Holl wired a stout wrister past Reading goaltender Connor Knapp for the Tonka Bay, Minnesota native's first career pro goal. Then, Gotovets made it 3-0 Fuel at 18:16 when the Minsk, Belarus native and former Cornell University utility man swooped around the Royals' back line and stuffed home his second goal of the frame and the season.
In the third, Reading took over, scoring four unanswered goals, from Maxim Lamarche at 4:28, Pat Mullane at 8:20 on the power-play, Adam Comrie on the power-play again at 13:43 and Olivier Labelle 1t 17:18 to skate away 4-3 winners on home ice. Fuel goaltender Cody Reichard stopped 32 pucks in defeat and Royals netminder Connor Knapp earned the win by virtue of a 23 save performance.
