Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - A pair of four-point games from Zach Budish and Byron Froese highlighted a 7-3 blowout win for the Cincinnati Cyclones (6-4-0-2) over the Kalamazoo Wings (6-6-1-1) in front of 2,875 at U.S. Bank Arena on Saturday night.
The Wings pulled ahead by one at 9:11 of the opening period when Ludwig Blomstrand tucked in his fifth goal of the season past Rob Madore (W, 24 saves, 4-2-0-2) to give his team the edge. The Cyclones answered back just 48 seconds later, though, when Byron Froese earned a turnover on the right wing wall and fed a seed to Josh Shalla in the mid slot - who promptly buried a lamplighter to knot things at one. The teams would enter the first intermission all square.
In their best offensive period of the season, Cincinnati lit the lamp five times to take a hefty advantage. Just 14 seconds in, Zach Budish fired a puck from behind the goal line off of Joel Martin's (L, 19 saves, 5-5-1-1) back and into the net to give his team the 2-1 edge. The Wings responded minutes later, at 2:51, when Alex Mallet slammed in a rebound to pull even again, this time at two. The deadlock wouldn't last long, however, as the Cyclones proceeded to net three goals in a five minute span to explode ahead; Froese, Stephan Vigier, and Christiaan Minella all lit the lamp. Minella struck again just before the break as he stole a puck away from Ben Wilson and quickly lifted it past Martin for his second goal of the night, making it 6-2 Cyclones after 40 minutes.
Cincinnati reached the seven-goal plateau midway through the final frame when Michael Quinn blasted home his first professional goal with a point shot during a man-advantage at 9:17. With plenty of breathing room the Cyclones cruised into the final minutes before the Wings notched a power play goal of their own from Lane Scheidl to close out the scoring. Cincinnati won it by a 7-3 final. In total, six different players registered multi-point games for Matt Macdonald's team.
