Atlanta Gladiators News Release

ESTERO, Fla. - The Gladiators (5-8-0-0) just could not solve Florida goaltender Allen York on Saturday night as the Tampa Bay Lightning prospect held the Glads scoreless on 21 shots faced in a 2-0 Florida victory. For the second consecutive night, Everblades (11-2-0-1) forward Mitch Wahl scored the game-winner, while Mark Guggenberger was 27-of-28 in net for Gwinnett.

The Gladiators outshot and out-chanced the Everblades in the first period for the second straight evening, but this time they were not able to cash in as the team went 0-for-2 on their lone man advantages of the period. Gwinnett would finish 0-for-4 on the power play, snapping a three-game power play streak, while Florida was 1-for-4.

It wasn't until the second period that anyone was able to break through, and it was Florida, who scored a power play goal at 9:35. Mitch Wahl received a tic-tac-toe pass from Cameron Burt and Mike Little, from point to point through the slot, and slapped one past Guggenberger's right shoulder as the goaltender was striding from left to right. Florida outshot Gwinnett in the second frame 17 to 3, the least amount of shots that the Gladiators have registered in any period so far this year.

Gwinnett fought back in the third with eight shots to Florida's six, but again they could not get enough pressure on York. Adam Brace tacked on the insurance goal on the empty-net goal with ten seconds remaining in the contest.

With the loss, the Gladiators have now dropped five straight, with four of those losses coming against the first place teams in the division (Greenville, and then Florida). The Gladiators' next game will be against the last team they have beaten, the South Carolina Stingrays on Tuesday, the 25th at 7:05 p.m., the first of four straight against the "˜Rays.
