Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - The Greenville Road Warriors (10-6-0-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, produced three goals in the third period for a 3-1 come-from-behind win over the Fort Wayne Komets (11-4-0-0) at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Saturday.
The win marked the sixth comeback victory for the team this season and gave Greenville its league-high fourth win when trailing after two periods. In net, Jeff Malcolm (8-3-0) made 25 saves for his eighth win in his last 10 starts.
Following a scoreless first period, the Komets grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the middle frame when Joey Leach scored his first goal of the season. From the right side, Paul Crowder fed the puck to Leach at the blue line who sent a slap shot through traffic and past Malcolm at the 3:22 mark.
Greenville responded just 4:01 into the third period and evened the game courtesy of Vinny Saponari's second goal in as many nights and his fifth of the season. On the right side, Trevor Parkes found Sean Escobedo, who backhanded a shot on target from the hash marks. With a blocker save, Komets' goaltender Pat Nagle kept the first chance out of the net, but slid out of position allowing Saponari to find an open net on the rebound.
Paul Rodrigues capitalized on another rebound chance just 1:30 later when he finished Steve Spinell's drive from the blue line for his first goal with the Road Warriors. Following numerous chances for the Komets late in the third period, Scott Arnold sealed the deal with an empty netter from the left side with just 14 seconds left.
Greenville finished the game 0-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. Nagle (7-3-0) made 23 saves and suffered the loss.
Shots were tied 26-26.
