November 22, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (Nov. 22nd) - The Wichita Thunder, proud member of the ECHL and powered by Toyota, announced several roster moves heading into tonight's match-up against the Missouri Mavericks. The team has added goaltender Ben Meisner to the roster and placed him on reserve. Defenseman Dalton Reum has been activated while forward Stephen Schultz has been placed on team suspension.
Meisner, 24, began the season in training camp with the San Jose Sharks of the NHL after signing a professional tryout contract. A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound netminder made his professional hockey debut with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL, playing in eight games and posting a solid 2.63 goals against average and .919 save percentage. Last season, Meisner played 12 games in Utah before being dealt to the Fort Wayne Komets in December. The third-year pro played 24 games in 2013-14 with the Komets, recording a 2.39 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. He had signed with the Allen Americans before being invited to Sharks' rookie camp and main training camp this past September.
Prior to turning pro, Meisner played four seasons for American International College (NCAA D-1), where he was named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team and named a Second-Team Atlantic Hockey All-Conference selection. His best season was his senior year, when he posted a 2.98 goals against average and a .923 save percentage, which are both school records. He is the all-time saves leader in the history of the Atlantic Hockey Conference, having made 3,684 saves and ranks in 12th place all-time in NCAA history in men's ice hockey at the Division I level.
Wichita returns home tonight to host the Missouri Mavericks at 7:05 p.m. The Thunder will travel back to the BOK Center for a rematch on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. against the Oilers.
