CHARLESTON, SC - Charleston RiverDogs infielder Luke Murton has been named the South Atlantic League (SAL) Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Murton, who has seen time at first base and designated hitter for the club, batted .500 this past week, going 11-for-22, with five doubles, one homerun and three RBI.

The former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket is batting .306 on the year, with a league-leading 20 doubles, seven homeruns and 29 RBI. The McDonough, GA native leads the RiverDogs in homeruns and RBI.

This marks the second time a RiverDogs player has earned SAL honors this year, with former pitcher Graham Stoneburner, currently with the Tampa Yankees, having been named the Pitcher of the Week for his efforts the week of April 19-25.

A 19th round pick of the New York Yankees in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, Murton put together a 14-game hit streak from April 13-27, second-longest in the league thus far this season. The former ACC standout is currently sitting on a 15-game road hit streak, tied for best in the league.

Charleston begins an eight-game homestand Tuesday against the Hickory Crawdads with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Tickets are available by calling the RiverDogs box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647), or by visiting www.riverdogs.com.
