Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

For the first time since May 7th, the Kannapolis Intimidators were shutout by the Greenville Drive in the first game of a four game series by the score of 2-0. Matt Wickswat was denied his fourth straight win and his sixth win of the season.

Wickswat went 6.2 innings but took the loss as he allowed a third inning solo home run to Reynaldo Rodriguez to left and in the sixth inning he allowed Jeremy Hazelbaker to triple, who was brought in by a single from the next hitter Derrik Gibson. Wickswat allowed five hits and walked four with three strikeouts.

The Intimidators (26-26) couldn't get much going against the Drive (26-27) and when they did, they failed to push runners home in scoring position. The Intimidators went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position as Kendal Volz (4-2) went five scoreless to start with five strikeouts and one walk. He was relieved by Jeremiah Bayer who went three scoreless and then closer Cesar Cabral struck out two in the ninth for his fifth save.

The Intimidators will look to get back above the .500 mark in a morning game on Wednesday at 10:05 am as Justin Collop will take to the hill, he will be opposed by Manuel Rivera.
