Murray Gathers 11th Shutout in Penguins' Win over Phantoms

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Scott Wilson netted a pair of goals and Matt Murray made 21 saves to record his 11th shutout of the season as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins closed out a three-game homestand with a 3-0 win versus the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was able to dominate the first period with Wilson leading the offensive charge. The rookie forward gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead at 10:34 as he found open space in the slot to accept an Andrew Ebbett pass and rifle it inside the right post.
With 2:45 left until the first intermission, Tom Kostopoulos sprung Wilson behind the Phantoms defense for a backhander over the blocker of goalie Rob Zepp that pushed Wilkes-Barre/Scranton ahead by two.
Murray made his best save of the match early in the second period after Blair Jones skated in on a breakaway, but was denied by the right skate of the goaltender.
The Penguins maintained their 2-0 lead until 9:50 remained in contest. Tom Kuhnhackl's centering pass intended for Dominik Uher instead found Brian Dumoulin at the point, where he blasted home his fourth of the season to complete the scoring.
A late push by Lehigh Valley would be thwarted by Murray, who is now 12-1-1 in his last 14 starts. With the win, the rookie netminder stands alone in second for the most shutouts in a season by an AHL goaltender - two behind the record holder, Jason LaBarbera (Hartford - 2003-04).
Making his sixth straight start for Lehigh Valley, Zepp stopped 35-of-38 shots.
The Penguins and Phantoms faceoff again on Wednesday, Apr. 8 at PPL Center. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Listen in on WILK Newsradio or watch online at AHL Live.
Individual tickets for all Penguins home games are available at the Mohegan Sun Arena Box Office, online at TicketMaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000.
