Monarchs Downed by Wolf Pack in Shootout, 3-2

HARTFORD, CT - The Monarchs snapped their three-game winning streak in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Wolf Pack at the XL Center on Saturday night.

Michael Mersch scored Manchester's second goal of the game, extending his point streak to a season-high six straight games. The reigning CCM/AHL Rookie of the Month has seven goals and four assists in that six-game stretch.

The Monarchs (45-16-6-3) finished the season with a 3-0-0-1 record against Hartford (38-23-5-4). They have earned at least one point in each of their last four games overall and have won 10 of their last 13 beginning on Mar. 8 (10-1-1-1).

Nic Dowd scored the game's first goal on the power play when he buried a loose rebound at 6:38 in the first. It was his second power-play goal of the season and eighth goal overall.

Mersch scored a wraparound goal during a man advantage at 17:05 in the second period to make it 2-0. It was his 19th goal of the season overall and seventh power-play goal.

Oscar Lindberg put Hartford on the board at 14:55 with a power play goal. He then tied the score with his second of the game with 40 seconds left in regulation.

Manchester went 0-for-3 in the shootout, with Jordan Weal and Zach O'Brien both hitting the post on their shot attempts. Danny Kristo scored the only goal in the shootout to give Hartford the win.

The Monarchs play next on Friday at 7 p.m. when they host Portland in VIP Cup action. They have six games remaining in the regular season, with three at home and three on the road.

Notes:

Nic Dowd (goal) has three goals in his last two games after scoring twice last night. Michael Mersch scored his seventh power-play goal of the season, tied for the fourth-most power-play goals on the Monarchs this season. Patrik Bartosak made 33 saves on 35 shots in regulation. He has allowed two goals or less in each of his last four starts, going 2-0-2 in that span. The Monarchs have gone to overtime 17 times this season. They have seven wins, six losses, one shootout win and three shootout losses. Jordan Weal had an assist tonight, the 169th point of his career. He moved into sole possession of fourth place on the Monarchs' all-time points list.
