Williams earns victory in first start for Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Johan Sundstrom's power play goal in the third frame pushed the Sound Tigers past the Northeast Division-leading Syracuse Crunch 3-2 on Saturday night at Webster Bank Arena.
Tied 2-2 in the third frame, the Sound Tigers went on a power play as Syracuse defenseman Jake Dotchin received a two-minute penalty for interference. Ryan Pulock found Sundstrom in the slot, who tipped it in the back of the Syracuse net for a 3-2 final score.
The Sound Tigers had a 2-0 lead as they notched goals in the first and second periods but the Crunch tallied two third period goals to tie the game 2-2. Point leader for the Crunch Jonathan Marchessault notched the first Syracuse goal at 3:50 of the third frame. 3:44 later, Syracuse forward Mathew Peca's pass to Kevin Lynch on the far post produced a goal to tie the game.
The Sound Tigers gained their 1-0 lead over the Crunch with a goal from Kael Mouillierat in the final minutes of the first frame. Syracuse goalie Allen York blocked Mike Halmo's shot from inside the blue line leaving the back of the net open for Mouillierat to collect on a goal off the rebound from Halmo.
Ryan Pulock extended the Sound Tigers lead with a slap shot from the blue line at the start of the second frame. Syracuse defenseman Charlie Dodero was sent to the penalty box for interference giving the Sound Tigers the man advantage. With 12 power play goals so far this season, Pulock registered another to give the Sound Tigers a 2-0 lead.
In his debut with the Sound Tigers, netminder Stephon Williams earned his first professional win. The Minnesota State product made 30 saves on 32 shots earning him the third star of the game. Most notable was Williams' diving save off Peca's shot with 4:05 left in the game.
The Sound Tigers went 2-for-3 on the power play and were successful on both penalty kills, including a five-minute boarding major given to Lukas Sutter in the second period.
The Sound Tigers host the Worcester Sharks on Monday, April 6 for a 7:00 p.m. game at Webster Bank Arena.
Game Notes: Alan Quine registered an assist on Sundstrom's goal putting him at eight points (4G, 4A) in the last six games played....Ryan Pulock is now second in the AHL with power play goals (13)...Williams is the second goaltender to win his first professional start in exactly a week for the Sound Tigers (C.J. Motte the other).
