Motter's Career Night Helps Hot Rods Sweep Bees

Burlington, IA - Taylor Motter drove in five runs and fell a triple shy of the cycle, leading the Bowling Green Hot Rods (13-8, 51-40) to an 8-2, sweep-clinching win over the Burlington Bees (11-10, 43-47) on Friday night at Community Field. Ryan Carpenter also hurled his ninth quality start of the season, and Cameron Seitzer recorded three hits. The Hot Rods have now won four straight games away from Bowling Green Ballpark and six of seven overall.
The Hot Rods were out of the starting gate fast in Burlington in their sweep bid. Cameron Seitzer started the scoring with his RBI-single that scored Alejandro Segovia in top of the second. The Seitzer single left runners at first and third for Motter, who cleared the bases with a three-run home run over the wall in left field. Motter's first home run since May 7 put the Hot Rods in the lead 4-0.
After the Bees scored on a Sean Jamieson solo home run in the bottom of the third, Motter helped the Hot Rods acquire that run right back in the top of the fifth. Segovia began the inning with a double to centerfield. Two batters later, Motter lined a ball into left-centerfield for his fourth RBI of the game. At the end of three-and-a-half, the Hot Rods held a 5-1 advantage.
Needing some insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning, Motter provided again for the Hot Rods. After a Seitzer's second single of the game, Motter drilled a ball into the gap in left-centerfield to score Seitzer. The five RBI's for Motter are the most that he has ever tallied in one game in his two professional seasons. Juniel Querecuto and Drew Vettleson later provided two RBI-singles in the frame, and the Hot Rods cruised their way to the win and the sweep.
Despite his season-long scoreless inning streak coming to an end at 14.1 innings, Ryan Carpenter was impressive in his team-leading ninth win of the season. The lefty allowed just two runs on five hits in six innings, winning his second straight start.
With the three-game series in Burlington behind them, the Hot Rods will begin a three-game series against the Peoria Chiefs on Saturday night at 6:30 PM CDT. In game one of the series, the Hot Rods will give the start to RHP Parker Markel (4-5, 4.75), while the Chiefs will counter with RHP Michael Jensen (8-3, 3.17).
