Comeback Bid Thwarted by Cougars

South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
The South Bend Silver Hawks (46-45, 11-10) loaded the bases with one out in the ninth inning before falling 2-1 to the Kane County Cougars in front of 7,652 fans at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. The Cougars took the series from South Bend two games to one.
Angel Baez (5-2) earned the win for Kane County, allowing just one unearned run on two hits over six strong innings. The right-hander struck out a career-high 10 batters, including the first five he faced. Tyler Green (2-5) was a tough-luck loser for South Bend, allowed just two runs - one earned - on four hits over seven innings.
Down a run, the Silver Hawks loaded the bases with one out in the ninth inning. Malcom Culver got Eric Groff to hit into a game-ending 6-4-3 double play to end the game. Culver earned his fourth save for the Cougars.
The Silver Hawks took the early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on an opposite field RBI double from Groff. The Cougars replied with a pair of runs in the last half of the inning. Jack Lopez and Michael Antonio added RBI singles for the Silver Hawks.
Ryan Court went 1-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
Right-hander Jake Barrett worked a scoreless inning out of the Silver Hawks bullpen.
The Silver Hawks begin a three-game series with the Clinton LumberKings on Saturday. Right-hander J.R. Bradley (6-5, 4.43) starts for South Bend and he will be opposed by righty Jordan Pries (0-0, 4.76). First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. EST.
