Bees Suffer First Sweep at Home to Bowling Green, 8-3

BURLINGTON, Iowa - The Burlington Bees (43-47, 11-10) suffered their first sweep at Community Field after losing 8-to-2 Bowling Green Hot Rods (51-40, 13-8) on Friday. The Bees struggled with runners in scoring position for the third time in the series and watched the game slip away in the eighth.

Tanner Peters made his third professional start in game three and immediately displayed his strikeout material by striking out the side in the top of the first. Peters, who averaged 11.1 strikeouts-per-nine innings last season, managed to strikeout eight batters on Friday night.

But not only did the skinny right-hander strikeout eight batters, he also only pitched three innings, which meant eight of the nine outs Peters recorded were punch-outs. The only batter that committed an out and didn't strikeout was Todd Glaes- mann, who was one of three batters to avoid a strikeout for the Hot Rods.

Despite Peters putting up punch-out numbers that would lead to an average of 24.00 strikeouts-per-nine innings, the right- hander received a loss because of a couple mistakes in the second inning. He hit a batter to start the second and walked another before Cameron Seitzer hit an RBI single and Taylor Motter hit a three-run home run. The Bees trailed 4-to-0 after the top of the second.

Peters surrendered a leadoff double to Alejandro Segovia to start the fourth. Overall, Peters (0-3) earned his third loss after pitching three innings and allowing four hits, five earned runs and one walk. Left-handed pitcher Julio Ramos made his first appearance with the Bees and allowed Segovia to score, but did not take an earned run in three innings out of the pen. The Bees had room on the roster for Ramos after the A's sent lefty Omar Duran to Short-Season Ball where he'll pitch for the Vermont Lake Monsters.

Sean Jamieson provided almost all of the offense for the Bees on Friday. The All-Star shortstop hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third to get the Bees on the board. Jamieson's seventh home run made the score 5-to-1 with the Hot Rods still in front after three innings.

Jamieson scored a second time in the bottom of the sixth after he hit a leadoff triple that the centerfielder, Glaesmann could not locate in the air. Aaron Shipman followed Jamieson's triple with an RBI single to left field after a good at bat. Jamieson eventually finished the day with two hits in two at bats, as well as two runs, one RBI, a home run, a stolen base, and a walk.

But the Bees only had two hits in 11 at bats with runners in scoring position and eventually lost 8-to3 after Chas Mye al- lowed three earned runs in the top of the eighth. The Bees hope to turn things around when they host the Dayton Dragons on Saturday night.
