Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Issuing a season-high nine walks for the second straight night, the Fort Wayne TinCaps dropped the rubber match of a three-game series by a final of 8-3 to the Beloit Snappers. The TinCaps used six different pitchers, with no one pitcher throwing more than three innings in the losing effort.
Colin Rea (2-6) allowed two runs in the first, facing six Snappers batters. Beloit (10-11, 49-43) tacked on another run in the second inning, earning a 3-0 lead before the TinCaps had sent five batters to the plate.
Fort Wayne (11-10, 42-49) picked up two runs in the bottom of the third inning, as Mike Gallic notched a sacrifice fly and Yeison Asencio secured an RBI single against Snappers starter Matt Summers (9-4). One run was as close as the TinCaps would come, though.
Beloit chased Rea from the game in the fourth inning, scoring three runs and extending the advantage to 6-2. Rea did not record an out in the fourth and in three innings, allowed four hits, six runs, five earned runs, while walking five batters and striking out one. With Rea's outing, no TinCaps starter has gone more than 4 1/3 innings since Matt Wisler's start on July 7. Over the last five games, TinCaps starters have worked to a 9.50 ERA, surrendering 19 earned runs in 18 innings.
Both teams would score again in the seventh, with the Snappers adding two and the TinCaps one. Asencio plated Travis Jankowski, bringing Fort Wayne to within five runs at 8-3.
Fort Wayne welcomes the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to Parkview Field on Saturday night for the first of a three-game series. The scheduled starters are Matt Wisler for Fort Wayne and Chad Pierce for Wisconsin. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
