Sacramento River Cats News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Scott Moore's three-hit, five-RBI night was more than enough offense for Sacramento, as the River Cats dropped the Fresno Grizzlies on Tuesday night at Chukchansi Park, 10-2.
Fresno jumped out to an early 2-1 lead against Sacramento starter Jesse Chavez, but the Cats would score the game's final nine runs to even the four-game set at a game apiece. Moore-who came into Tuesday's game with just eight RBIs on the season-exploded for a single, two doubles and five runs batted in, accounting for half of Sacramento's offense in the rout. Daric Barton and Stephen Vogt homered for the Cats, providing plenty of support for Chavez (2-1), recently optioned by Oakland after appearing in three games with the big club.
Chavez, who was on a pitch count Tuesday, allowed two earned runs in five innings of work, striking out four and walking one. Mike Ekstrom and Darren Byrd each hurled two scoreless frames out of the bullpen to preserve the win.
The loss fell to Fresno starter Yusmeiro Petit (2-3), who surrendered six earned runs in 5.2 innings.
Sacramento's two-homer night was the team's fifth-straight game with two long balls. Barton's homer was his second in as many nights, while Vogt's sixth home run gave him the team lead. Michael Choice and Mike Taylor chipped in with two-hit nights, while Andy Parrino tripled for the second-straight game, driving in two runs.
The series continues Wednesday evening at Chukchansi Park, with righty Sonny Gray (2-1, 3.27 ERA) and Fresno's right-hander Chris Heston (2-1, 6.58 ERA) the scheduled starters. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.
The River Cats return home Friday, May 3, for a four-game set against the Las Vegas 51s, fireworks shows on Friday and Saturday night.
