Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, Calif. - Scott Moore drove in five of Sacramento's 10 runs in the River Cats' 10-2 win over the Fresno Grizzlies on Tuesday at Chukchansi Park. The Fresno loss moves the Grizzlies and River Cats back into a tie atop the Pacific Southern Division to end the opening month of the 2013 season.
Grizzlies starting pitcher Yusmeiro Petit dropped to 2-3 on the season after he suffered the defeat on Tuesday. The right-hander allowed six runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Petit allowed a solo home run to Stephen Vogt in the second inning to score the game's first run.
The Grizzlies responded quickly, though, with two runs in the bottom of the second. Chris Dominguez drove in Carter Jurica, who reached with a double, on an RBI groundout before Jackson Williams plated Juan Perez to give Fresno a 2-1 lead. Williams finished the game with two hits, which was his first multi-hit game of the season.
In the fourth inning, Shane Peterson and Michael Choice recorded back-to-back doubles to start the frame. Choice's double drove in Peterson, while Choice was later driven in on a line drive single by Scott Moore.
The River Cats registered back-to-back leadoff hits to also start the sixth inning. After Choice and Michael Taylor each singled, Daric Barton loaded the bases with a one-out walk.
Grizzlies manager Bob Mariano made a long mound visit after Barton's walk, but the skipper elected to leave Petit in the game to try to finish the inning. Petit subsequently allowed a deep fly ball to left field by Moore to score Choice and make it 4-2 Sacramento. One batter later, Andy Parrino cleared the bases with a two-run triple that chased Petit from the contest.
Petit, the PCL strikeouts leader, did not notch six strikeouts, giving him 43 on the season.
The River Cats turned in another three-run frame in the seventh inning. Moore hit a bases loaded double to clear the bases and make it 9-2 Sacramento. Moore finished the game with three hits to go along with his five RBI.
Steve Edlefsen allowed three runs on two hits and four walks for the Grizzlies. The right-hander did register two strikeouts.
Carlos Teller made his Triple-A debut, throwing 2 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out one. The left-hander did allow a solo home run to Daric Barton in the top of the ninth inning that capped the game's scoring.
River Cats starting pitcher Jesse Chavez allowed two runs on seven hits over five innings in the winning decision.
Brett Pill extended his hitting streak to 11 games after going 1-for-4. His seven-game RBI streak, however, did come to an end.
Kensuke Tanaka extended his hitting streak to eight games with one hit in five at-bats.
Game three of the four-game series is set for Wednesday at 7:05 pm. Right-hander Chris Heston will face Sacramento's Sonny Gray.
