Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced a few roster moves today that impact their Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express. OF Joey Butler (hamstring) and RHP Collin Balester have been placed on the seven-day disabled list. The corresponding moves resulted in the promotions of LHP Ryan Feierabend, RHP Jake Brigham and INF Alex Buchholz from Frisco (Double-A).
Balester is currently 1-4 with a 7.33 ERA (27.0ip/22er) in six appearances (five starts) with the Express. He has lost four straight decisions on the mound, including allowing a season-high six earned runs to Iowa on Tuesday in his shortest start of 2013 (3.2 innings).
Butler posted a .341 average (30-88) with three home runs and 12 RBI before being placed on the seven-day DL, including a five-game hitting streak.
With the retirement on RHP Randy Wells on Tuesday, the Rangers have promoted three players from Double-A Frisco.
Brigham saw action in seven games for the RoughRiders, allowing just five hits and striking out 17 batters in 13.2 innings. He recorded two saves in as many opportunities. This will be Brigham's first stop at the Triple-A level.
Buchholz is hitting .247 (22-89) with nine extra-base hits in 22 games with Frisco. This is also Buchholz first promotion to Triple-A.
Feierabend will join the Express rotation, along with Brigham. He posted a 1-2 record with a 3.86 ERA over five starts (28.0 innings) with the RoughRiders. The Express will be the southpaw's fourth Triple-A team after spending time with the Tacoma Rainiers (Seattle) in 2007, '08 and '10, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (Philadelphia) in 2011 and the Louisville Bats (Cincinnati) in 2012.
The Express continue a four-game series in Iowa tonight with game three of four. They return home on Friday to open a four-game series against the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers) with Budweiser Friday Fireworks!
