Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 17, 2015) - The Chicago White Sox have added Francellis "Frankie" Montas to the Major League roster as the 26th player for Friday's doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals, making Montas the 84th player to go from Kannapolis to MLB and the 60th since the Intimidators became a White Sox affiliate in 2001. This season, Montas has gone 2-1 with a 2.47 ERA in 15 games (15 starts) with the Double-A Birmingham Barons, including a 7-inning no-hitter on June 9.

Montas joined the Intimidators in 2013 from the Red Sox organization as part of the three-team trade-deadline deal that sent Jake Peavy to Boston. After opening that season with the South Atlantic League's Greenville Drive, he made his final five starts of the year with Kannapolis, going 3-2 with a 4.56 ERA (13 ER/25.2 IP) and 31 strikeouts.

Montas joins second baseman Micah Johnson as the two most recent Intimidators to reach the Major Leagues, with both men playing on the 2013 squad in Kannapolis.
