
BlueClaws Upend Braves

Rome, GA - The Lakewood BlueClaws topped the Rome Braves Friday night 5-4 to take the first game of a four game series at State Mutual Stadium.
The BlueClaws scored a run in the first when Scott Kingery tripled and later scored on a single by Kyle Martin. Lakewood made it a 3-0 game in the third on a RBI single by Martin. Kingery later scored on a throwing error on a wide pick-off throw by Yean Carlos Gil. The Braves cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Ozzie Albies. Rome scored again in the fourth on a homerun by Tanner Murphy (3) to cut the lead to one. The BlueClaws answered quickly with a run in the fifth on a RBI double by Martin to make the score 4-2. Braxton Davidson's (7) homerun in the bottom of the sixth cut the lead to 4-3 and the Braves tied the game 4-4 on Albies' sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh. The BlueClaws took the lead for good in the top of the eighth on a RBI single by Cord Sandberg for the final score of 5-4.
Calvin Rayburn (2-1) gets the victory while Yean Carlos Gil (1-2) the loss. Matt Hockenberry gets his eighth save of the season.
