Savannah, GA - The Charleston RiverDogs scored three times in the top of the first inning and never trailed on their way to defeating the Savannah Sand Gnats 6-2 Friday night at Historic Grayson Stadium.

The RiverDogs (9-13/43-49) bit Savannah starter Corey Oswalt for five runs on 11 hits in four innings to build a 5-0 lead. In the first, first baseman Isaias Tejeda singled home a pair. Later in the inning, the 'Dogs executed a doublesteal to help Jorge Mateo, the SAL's leader with 61 stolen bases, swipe home. In the fourth, second baseman Vicente Conde launched a two-run homer for a 5-0 advantage. Oswalt was charged with the loss to fall to 6-4.

The Gnats (7-14/46-45) picked up two runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 5-2. Both runs scored on Charleston catcher Radley Haddad's throwing error on a swinging strike three by right fielder Wuilmer Becerra.

Charleston added a run off reliever Ben Griset in the top of the seventh to complete the game's scoring.

The Gnats had baserunners in seven of their nine turns at bat, but were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Savannah relievers Alberto Baldonado and Jimmy Duff combined to toss perfect 8th and 9th innings.

The Savannah Sand Gnats and Charleston RiverDogs will continue their four-game series tomorrow at 6:05 PM. It will be game two of the Subway Series in the South presented by Amtrak.
