Cleveland Monsters News Release
ROSEMONT, IL - In the fourth of eight meetings between the two teams this season, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters defeated the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL on Saturday by a final score of 4-2. With the win, the Monsters improved to 20-13-3-3 overall this season and with a .590 points percentage, remain alone in fifth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
The Monsters grabbed an early lead in the opening period on Saturday after John Ramage scalded home his third goal of the season at 11:52 on feeds from Brett Gallant and Alex Broadhurst. Then, rookie defenseman Eric Roy tallied his first career AHL goal just over one minute later at 13:05, a power-play marker assisted by Broadhurst and Daniel Zaar that made it 2-0 Lake Erie.
In the middle frame, the Monsters extended their lead at 1:41 when Oliver Bjorkstrand notched his fourth tally of the season on the power-play thanks to a slick set-up from Zaar and Broadhurst. After Chicago's Evan Trupp converted a breakaway chance at 10:51, the Monsters made it 4-1 at 12:33, courtesy of a no-look T.J. Tynan transition feed that provided Derek DeBlois the chance to collect his fourth goal of the season, with Ryan Craig notching the secondary assist on the play. A Pat Cannone goal at 7:36 drew Chicago within a pair, but it wasn't enough in a 4-2 Monsters win.
Pheonix Copley allowed four goals on 22 shots faced for the Wolves before being pulled early in the second period, while Anton Forsberg claimed victory for the Monsters in his first AHL appearance since being reassigned to Lake Erie on Friday by the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Monday road clash vs. the Rockford IceHogs with full coverage underway from the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, IL at 2:00 pm on ESPN 1540 KNR2 and the Monsters Hockey Network.
