Power Play Errupts for Two Goals But Falcons Lose in Shootout

Hershey, PA - The Springfield Falcons lost a lead in the third period and fell to the Hershey Bears by a 4-3 score on Saturday night at the Giant Center.

The Bears tallied the first goal of the game with a rebound score from Riley Barber at 10:05. His sixth of the year was assisted by Travis Boyd and Joey Leach. The Falcons responded with a power play goal from Alex Grant for his seventh of the season. A wrist shot snuck past Bears' goalie Dan Ellis to tie the game at one. Falcons' goalie Marek Langhamer turned aside 16 of 17 shots in the period.

Hershey regained their lead with another goal from Barber for his seventh of the season at 4:38 of the second period. The goal was assisted by Madison Bowey and Christian Djoos. Once again, the Falcons tied it up with a one-timer from Greg Carey at 9:52. His twelfth of the year was setup by Craig Cunningham but the play was started by Grant. With 1:13 left in the second, the Falcons took their first lead of the night with a Christian Thomas power play goal assisted by Dustin Jeffrey and Grant. His ninth of the year gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead headed into the third period. The Falcons outshot the Bears 15-8 in the second stanza.

Chris Bourque tied the game with a slap shot on the power play at 12:53 of the third period for his eighteenth of the year. Barber and Chris Brown assisted on the goal to tie the game and force overtime. Neither team could score in the three-on-three overtime despite several scoring chances. In the shootout, the first three rounds went scoreless to force sudden death. Connor Carrick scored to force the Falcons to score in the fourth round; which Jeffrey did. In the fifth round, Djoos scored to once again force the Falcons to respond. Domenic Monardo lost the puck attempting to deke Ellis and failed to apply a shot to send the Falcons to a 4-3 shootout loss. Langhamer fell to a 1-2-1 record with a 32 save effort and stopped three in the shootout. Ellis improved to 12-6-3 with a 33 save night that included four stops in the shootout.

The Falcons complete the road trip with another contest at the Giant Center tomorrow night against the Bears at 5 p.m. Coverage can be heard live on NewsRadio560 WHYN.
