Record Crowd Sees Wild in OT

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Wild (10-25-2-3, 25 points) defeated the San Jose Barracuda (18-10-4-3, 43 points) 2-1 in overtime in front of a record crowd of 12,445 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night. Wild defenseman Gustav Olofsson scored at 1:14 of overtime, lifting Iowa past San Jose. Iowa goalie Jeremy Smith (6-13-3) made 25 saves on 26 shots in the victory. Forward Jordan Schroeder scored as well for the Wild. Despite the loss, San Jose goalie Aaron Dell (6-6-4) stopped 45 of 47 shots. Forward Trevor Parkes scored the lone Barracuda goal. Iowa hosts the Stockton Heat on Sunday evening at 5 P.M.

After a scoreless first, Barracuda forward Trevor Parkes opened the scoring at 2:46 of the second period, giving San Jose a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Gus Young and forward Bryan Lerg each tallied an assist on the goal. Young fired a shot on net with Parkes providing a screen. Parkes picked up the rebound and wristed the puck past goalie Leland Irving for his seventh goal of the season.

Wild forward Jordan Schroeder scored at 4:23 of the third period, tying the game 1-1. Forward Grayson Downing picked up the lone assist on the goal. Schroeder fired a shot through traffic in front of the net. Picking up his own rebound, he wristed the puck past goalie Aaron Dell for his ninth goal of the season.

Wild defenseman Gustav Olofsson scored at 1:14 of overtime, giving Iowa a 2-1 victory. Forwards Zack Mitchell and Grayson Downing each picked up an assist on the goal. Mitchell threw the puck towards the goal from the right point. Crashing the net, Olofsson redirected the puck past Dell for his first goal of the season.

The Iowa Wild announced on Saturday the team has set a new attendance record for a professional hockey game in the city of Des Moines with an announced crowd of 12,445. The Wild surpasses the 2009 mark of 12,136 set by the now defunct Iowa Chops of the AHL. The new mark surpasses the Wild's previous team record of 11,503 set earlier this season on November 5, 2015 - School Field Trip Day. The Iowa Wild has climbed over 10,000 a few times in its short existence, including 10,215 on Opening Night 2013 (10/12/13) and 10,115 for Pink in the Rink (2/14/14).

Iowa puts on Kids Winterfest, presented by BCP Live, on Sunday, Jan. 17 when it hosts the Stockton Heat at 5 PM. The first 1,000 fans to the game receive a Crash OYO minifigurine, presented by Fast Signs and Lazer 103.3. The team will be holding a postgame autograph session following the conclusion of the matchup with Stockton. Fans may purchase the Subway / Star 102.5 Combo pack, starting at $12 per person, which includes a ticket, a hot dog, one soda and one subway coupon.

The Wild travels to Rockford next weekend for two games against the IceHogs on Friday and Saturday night. Iowa returns home on Jan. 26 for a game against the Chicago Wolves at 7 P.M. Tuesday's game features a Crash's Kids Meal for every kid under the age of 12 courtesy of 96.5 Country of iHeartMedia Des Moines. Crash's Kids Meal includes one hot dog, one soda, one popcorn, one fruit snack, and one wild prize. The game is also "Taco John's Tuesday", giving every fan a voucher for a free taco at Taco John's upon entry to the game.

Fans may purchase single-game tickets multiple ways, either through the team's website - www.Iowawild.com , the Wells Fargo Arena box office or participating Hy-Vee food stores. Tickets are available online at www.Iowawild.com under the single game tickets tab. The Wells Fargo Arena box office is open Monday - Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday. For Saturday game days, the box office will open at 10 a.m. For Sunday game days the box office will open at 12 p.m. Fans may also purchase tickets by calling 1-844-55-HYVEE or by visiting participating Hy-Vee food stores locations in the greater Des Moines area. The Iowa Wild 2015-16 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April.
