Wedgewood Shines in Albany Devils OT Loss

UTICA, NY - Scott Wedgewood did all he could to get the Albany Devils to overtime, but the team couldn't find the net in a 1-0 loss against the Utica Comets Saturday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Wedgewood made a career-high 43 saves as the Devils lost to the Comets for the first time in franchise history (9-1).
Wedgewood, who entered the game on a career-long five-game winning streak, was busy throughout the night. He made 17 stops in the first, 10 in the second, 13 in the third and three in overtime.
Carter Bancks scored the lone tally, skating the puck out of the right corner and beating Wedgewood over the left shoulder at 3:05 of the extra frame. The goal was unassisted.
Despite the loss, the Devils still registered a point and have done so in nine of their last 10 games (7-1-2-0). Albany moved to 23-9-5-0, while Utica improved to 18-15-3-3.
Richard Bachman didn't have nearly the workload as Wedgewood, but he still registered his seventh win and first shutout of the season. He was tasked with 14 saves.
