LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

vs. Portland (11/9):

Right wing Linden Vey scored a late third period goal to lift the Manchester Monarchs over the Portland Pirates, 4-3, on Education Day, presented by Northeast Delta Dental at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday afternoon. The Monarchs also received goals from center Marc-Andre Cliche, left wing Ray Kaunisto and left wing David Meckler. The Pirates tallied goals from defenseman Nathan Oystrick, right wing Brett Hextall and center Andy Miele. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff earned the victory making 28 saves on 31 shots. Pirates netminder Curtis McElhinney took the loss stopping 24-of-28 shots. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. The Pirates were also 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

@ Providence (11/11):

The Providence Bruins' late third period goal broke the deadlock and ended goaltender Martin Jones shutout bid as the Manchester Monarchs were blanked 1-0 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night. Bruins center Maxime Sauve scored the lone goal of the game. Jones took the loss making 22 saves on 23 shots. Bruins netminder Anton Khudobin earned his sixth victory and first shutout of the season making saves on all 30 shots faced. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. The Bruins were 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

@ Worcester (11/12):

Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff stopped 46-of-47 shots to lead the Manchester Monarchs past the Worcester Sharks, 2-1, at the DCU Center on Saturday night. The Monarchs tallied goals from center Justin Azevedo and defenseman Slava Voynov. Zatkoff earned his third victory of the season stopping all 23 shots faced in the third period. Sharks netminder Tyson Sexsmith took the loss making 23 saves on 25 shots. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. The Sharks were 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (7-9-0-1) are in third place in the Atlantic Division with 15 points. The St. John's IceCaps (11-2-3-0) sit in first place in the division with 25 points. The Providence Bruins (8-8-1-0) are in second place in the division with 17 points. The Worcester Sharks (5-4-0-2) rank fourth in the division with 12 points. The Portland Pirates (5-7-0-1) are in fifth place in the division with 11 points.

The Monarchs are 2-1-0-0 in their last three games.

Manchester is 6-5-0-1 against Atlantic Division teams this season including a road record of 5-3-0-0. The Monarchs owns a 3-2-0-1 record in November and have won three of their last four road games.

With a 4-3 victory over the Pirates on Wednesday, the Monarchs snapped their five-game winless streak at home.

Manchester surrendered 47 shots on goal, tying a season-high by a Monarchs opponent, in a 2-1 victory over the Sharks on Saturday night.

The Monarchs are 2-1-0-0 in games in which they have allowed 40 or more shots on goal in a game.

Manchester's (350 penalty minutes) lead the league for the most penalty minutes this season. The team is averaging 20.6 penalty minutes a game which is tied for third most in the league.

The Monarchs are undefeated in regulation (5-0-0-1) in games which they have led after the first period.

At the Verizon Wireless Arena this season, the Monarchs own a 2-5-0-1 record overall including a record of 1-1-0-1 in November.

Monarchs center Andrei Loktionov (3-11=14) leads the team in both assists (11) and points (14). Loktionov's 11 assists are tied for seventh best in the league.

Loktionov was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, November 14, 2011. In 20 career games with the Kings, the center has seven points (4-3=7) and two penalty minutes.

Monarchs center Marc-Andre Cliche (7-4=11) leads the team with seven goals and a plus/minus of plus-8.

Cliche has recorded a point in four of his last five games this season, tallying two goals and two assists in those games. Manchester left wing Richard Clune (3-4=7) leads the league with 74 penalty minutes this season.

Right wing Linden Vey (3-4=7) tallied his first professional game-winning goal at 18:16 of the third period in Wednesday's match-up against the Pirates.

Monarchs right wing Jordan Nolan (2-5=7) returned to the ice on Saturday following a two-game suspension.

With a goal in Wednesday's victory over the Pirates, Monarchs left wing David Meckler (4-2=6) moved into fourth place on the Monarchs all-time goals scored list.

Defenseman Jake Muzzin (3-5=8) leads Monarchs defensemen in goals (three) and points (eight) this season.

Muzzin's three goals this season also ties him for fourth place in the league amongst defensemen.

Manchester goaltender Martin Jones owns a 4-7-0 record, a 2.50 goals against average and a .921 save-percentage on the season.

Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff has registered a 2.45 goals against average, a .923 save-percentage and a record of 3-2-1 on the season.

With wins on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 and Saturday, November 12, 2011, Zatkoff has won consecutive starts for the first time this season.

Mullets in Movember - The Monarchs players and employees have begun growing their moustaches as the team does its part to raise awareness in health issues specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that effect men. The first 3,000 fans to Mullets in Movember will receive mullet wigs and moustaches at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2011 when the team hosts the WB/Scranton Penguins at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
