Abbotsford Heat News Release

Abbotsford, BC - The Abbotsford Heat hockey operations department today announced that forward Krys Kolanos has been signed to a SPC (standard player's contract) terms are currently undisclosed.

After signing a PTO contract (professional try out) on October 11 Kolanos made his Heat debut on October 28 in Grand Rapids, MI and made an impression recording a hat trick and adding a helper in a 5-1 Heat win. Kolanos hadn't played a pro game since January of 2010 as he recovered from major hip surgery. The 30-year-old Calgary, AB product is in his second stint within the Flames organization after recording 63 points in 65 games with the Quad City Flames (AHL) in 2007-08. Kolanos is currently tied for the lead in team scoring.

Kolanos hit his stride with a point scoring streak that began, along with his rejuvenated career on October 28 and stretched over six games. In that time he tallied seven goals and a half dozen helpers.

Heat Head Coach Troy Ward spoke about Kolanos' signing of the SPC saying "(it's) one the first stages in his comeback. The first was to prove he's healthy; second earn a contract and the third working his way back to being a perennial player in the AHL."
