Shark Snap Shot:
The Worcester Sharks chomped two out of a possible six points last week in three games highlighted by a 3-2 win over the Sound Tigers on Friday afternoon. Worcester fired 47 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Monarchs on Saturday followed by a 49 shot effort in a 3-2 loss to the Bruins on Sunday. The Sharks concluded their season long six game home stand 1-4-0-1. The Worcester Sharks player of the week nominee is forward John McCarthy; as he scored his first two goals this season, added an assist, and fired seven shots on goal in three games. Worcester plays three games this week; Wednesday at Springfield, Friday at Manchester, and Sunday at home vs. the Penguins.

11.11.11 - Worcester 3 - Bridgeport 2 - W - DCU Center
John McCarthy scored his first goal of the season and added an assist as the Sharks defeated the Sound Tigers 3-2 at the DCU Center on Friday afternoon. Harri Sateri was solid in goal for Worcester making 23 saves as the Sharks and Brodie Reid scored for a second straight game. Cam MacIntyre also scored for Worcester to snap a two game skid.
11.12.11 - Worcester 1 - Manchester 2 - L - DCU Center
Tommy Wingels scored his first goal of the season and Worcester fired a season high 47 shots, but it wasn't enough as the Sharks fell to the Manchester Monarchs 2-1 at the DCU Center on Saturday night.
Tyson Sexsmith was solid in goal for Worcester making 23 saves in a game that featured several fights and post whistle scrums.
11.13.11 - Worcester 2 - Providence 3 - L - DCU Center
A night after firing 47 shots on goal in a 2-1 loss to the Monarchs, the Sharks added two more for a total of 49 shots but fell again by a single goal in a 3-2 loss to the Providence Bruins in front of 5,402 at the DCU Center on Sunday afternoon. Benn Ferriero and John McCarthy scored for the Sharks and Harri Sateri made 23 saves in a game that featured 78 penalty minutes. The Sharks finished 1-4-0-1 on their season long six game home stand as they hit the road in Springfield on Wednesday at 7pm.
Sharks in the Atlantic: The Sharks are swimming in 4th place with 12 points (5-4-0-2) in the Atlantic Division through 11 games, which is 13 points behind the first place St. John's Ice Caps (16gp), five points behind the 2nd place Providence Bruins (17gp), and three points behind the 3rd place Manchester Monarchs (17gp). The Sharks have a one point edge over the 5th place Portland Pirates (13gp) to round out a very choppy Atlantic Division.
Coaching Milestones....
400 WINS!....With the 4-1 victory vs. Springfield on November 1, 2009, head coach Roy Sommer became just the 4th coach in AHL history to reach the 400 win plateau.
500 WINS!.... Coach Roy Sommer is just 17 wins away from 500 in his AHL coaching career.
1000 GAMES... With the 3-1 victory at Springfield on January 14, 2011, head coach Roy Sommer became just the 4th coach in AHL history to reach the 1,000 games plateau.

Worcester Sharks Head Coach Roy Sommer, who plays a major role in developing players for the San Jose Sharks, is currently the longest-tenured coach (14th season) in the American Hockey League. His current regular season record is now: 483-437 -48 -44 -39. (W-L-T-OTL-SOL)
In Coach Sommer's first AHL victory.... The Kentucky Thoroughblades defeated the Albany River Rats 6-4 at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky on October 17th 1998. Coincidentally, Assistant Coach David Cunniff recorded an assist as a member of the River Rats in the hockey game.
Assistant Coach David Cunniff has joined Coach Sommer in 329 of the 483 victories (68%).
Shark Bites:
Captains for the 2011-12 season: Mike Moore was named the Sharks 4th captain in team history on Feb 11, 2011 and was named captain again before the start of the 2011-12 season. Alternate captains for this season: veteran forward Ben Guite and forward John McCarthy. Tommy Wingels has also worn the "A" in the absence of an injured Ben Guite.
From east to west..... The Worcester Sharks have had 2 players (2 call-ups) receive at least one call up this season to San Jose... Currently; Andrew Desjardins, Justin Braun, Jamie McGinn, Logan Couture, Jason Demers, Joe Pavelski, Marc-Edourd Vlasic, and Doug Murray are all former Worcester Sharks that are currently playing with the San Jose Sharks.

200/300... Worcester Sharks captain Mike Moore became just the 2nd player in Sharks history to hit 200 games and 300 penalty minutes this season joining Riley Armstrong. #8 has played in 203 games for Worcester accumulating 302 penalty minutes.
Welcome back Frazer... Sharks tough guy Frazer McLaren was assigned to Worcester from SJ on a conditioning stint on Nov 12. #10 ranks 2nd all-time in Worcester Sharks history with 426 penalty minutes (41 FM) in 173 games. Brad Staubitz holds the top stop with 462 pims in 162 games.
Thanks Ballou... the Worcester Sharks are 4-6-0 when they fire 47 or more shots on goal during a game and have just a 4-6-0-0 record in those contests.
3-for-96.... The Sharks scored just three goals on 96 shots combined in their last two games. Worcester outshot the Monarchs 47-25 on Saturday in a 2-1 loss and outshot the Bruins 49-26 in the 3-2 loss to Providence on Sunday.
