David Shields Returns to Rivermen

Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced Monday that the St. Louis Blues have reassigned defenseman David Shields to Peoria from the Rivermen ECHL affiliate, Alaska Aces.

Shields, 20, made his professional debut with the Aces on Oct. 14 and recorded six points (one goal, five assists) in 12 games. He began the season in Peoria but did not appear in a regular season game. Prior to this year, he spent four seasons with the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) Erie Otters where he made 250 appearances and amassed 67 points, including 15 goals and 52 assists.

In 2010-11, the 6'3, 218-pound defenseman played in 61 games ranking second among Erie defensemen with a career-high 27 points (six goals, 21 assists). He also appeared in seven playoff games in the Otters Western Conference Quarterfinals loss to the Windsor Spitfires. He had a goal and four assists with four penalty minutes.

The Buffalo, New York native was drafted by the Blues in the sixth round, 168th overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
