WBS Penguins' Ben Street Named Reebok/AHL Player of the Week
November 14, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Ben Street has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 13, 2011.
Street erupted for eight points on two goals and six assists, along with a plus-5 rating, in three games as the Penguins moved into the top spot in its division and the second-best record in the entire AHL.
On Wednesday night in Norfolk, Street had three points in the first period and scored the goal that put the Penguins ahead for good as Wilkes-Barre grabbed a 4-2 victory, passing the Admirals and moving into first place in the East Division. On Friday in Hershey, Street was a plus-4 and registered four assists, including setting up the game-winning goal in the Penguins' 5-4 overtime victory over the Bears that improved Wilkes-Barre to a perfect 8-0-0-0 on the road this season. And back home on Saturday, Street finished the week by scoring a power-play goal in what would be a 5-3 loss to Norfolk.
Street's eight-point effort came after he had entered the week with just two points in eight games on the season.
Street, 24, is in his second professional campaign after signing with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton out of the University of Wisconsin. The native of Coquitlam, B.C., has two goals and eight assists for 10 points in 11 games with the Penguins this season and is second among all Wilkes-Barre forwards with a plus-8 rating. As a rookie in 2010-11, Street appeared in 36 games with the Penguins and totaled 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points.
In recognition of his achievement, Street will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Penguins home game.
