Manchester Monarchs News Release
LAST WEEK ¬â¢S HIGHLIGHTS
Vs. Connecticut (12/21): Center Oscar Moller netted two goals and scored in the shootout as the Manchester Monarchs came from being down by four goals to record a 5-4 shootout victory against the Connecticut Whale at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Tuesday evening. Center Marc-Andre Cliche and defenseman Thomas Hickey helped Moller in the Monarchs comeback as they combined to score four consecutive goals to tie Connecticut. Left wing Devin DiDiomete, center Chad Kolarik, right wing Dale Weise and right wing Jeremy Williams each scored to give the Whale an early 4-0 lead. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (10-2-0) recorded his 10th victory of the season, making 12 saves on 13 shots on goal. Manchester ¬â¢s netminder Jeff Zatkoff allowed three goals on nine shots in the first 20 minutes of play. Whale ¬â¢s netminder Cameron Talbot (5-2-2) drew his second shootout loss of the season, halting 28-of-32 shots on goal. Manchester and Connecticut both went 1-for-4 on the power play.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Manchester Monarchs (21-11-1-1, 44 points) lead the Atlantic Division with 44 points. The Portland Pirates (17-10-2-1, 37 points) and the Connecticut Whale (15-12-2-5, 37 points) trail the Monarchs by five points, and are tied for second place in the Atlantic Division with 37 points. The Worcester Sharks (15-10-2-4, 36 points) are in fourth place in the Atlantic Division, as they trail Portland and Connecticut by one point with 36 points.
Manchester ¬â¢s power play is ranked 13th in the AHL as they have scored 29 goals on 161 opportunities for an 18.0% conversion rate. On the penalty kill, the Monarchs are ranked 11th in the league as they have given up 27 goals when they have been down a man. They have been shorthanded 164 times this season and have an 83.5% penalty kill rating.
Center Andrei Loktionov (5-20=25) picked up two more assists in the Monarchs 5-4 shootout victory over the Whale on Tuesday to regain sole possession of the team ¬â¢s lead with 25 points.
Loktionov also leads the Monarchs with 20 assists.
Loktionov leads the Monarchs with a plus/minus rating of plus-11.
Left wing Bud Holloway (9-14=23) and defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (5-18=23) are close behind Loktionov with 23 points each, good for second place on the squad.
Voynov has collected eight points (1-7=8) in his last seven games.
Center Corey Elkins (9-12=21) is fourth on the Monarchs in points with 21.
Center Oscar Moller (8-12=20) returned from his four-game stint with the Los Angeles Kings to record two goals and an assist in Tuesday ¬â¢s 5-4 shootout win over the Whale and move into fifth place on the Monarchs with 20 points.
Moller was recalled by the Kings on Friday, December 10 and played in his first NHL game this season in the Kings 3-2 overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, December 11. Moller played in four games with the Kings this season and recorded three points (1-2=3).
Moller is tied with defenseman Thomas Hickey (5-11=16) for second place on the Monarchs in the plus/minus category with a plus-10.
Right wing Brandon Kozun (8-10=18) is ranked sixth on the Monarchs roster with 18 points.
Kozun is tied for 14th in the AHL among rookies with 18 points.
Center Justin Azevedo (10-7=17) is the team leader in goals scored with 10 and is ranked seventh on the Monarchs with 17 points.
Azevedo is also tied for second place in the AHL in game-winning goals with four.
Defenseman Alec Martinez (5-11=16) is tied for eighth place on the Monarchs with Hickey with 16 points each.
Martinez, recalled by Los Angeles on November 23, scored his first NHL goal the next evening as he scored against netminder Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens in a 4-1 loss. Martinez has appeared in 14 games with the Kings and has three points (2-1=3). Most recently, Martinez picked up a goal and an assist against the Detroit Red Wings in the Kings 3-2 overtime win on December 4.
Left wing David Meckler (9-4=13) is tied for second on the team in goals scored with Holloway and Elkins. Each player has nine tallies.
Left wing Richard Clune ¬â¢s 130 penalty minutes places him third overall in the league in the same category. Right wing Justin Johnson is ranked eighth in the AHL with 98 penalty minutes.
Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff has a record of 10-9-1 with a 3.21 goals-against-average and a 0.893 save percentage in 21 games this season.
Netminder Martin Jones has played in 15 games with the Monarchs and has collected a record of 10-2-0 with a 1.58 goals-against-average and a .950 save percentage.
Jones ¬â¢ 1.58 goals-against-average places him in second in the AHL in that category and his 0.950 save percentage is ranked second in the league.
