Bears Close Out 2010 This Week With Two Home Games

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club wraps up 2010 with four games this week, including a visit by the Binghamton Senators Tuesday and the Syracuse Crunch on New Year ‚¬â„¢s Eve. HERSHEY will also venture to Pittsburgh on Thursday to face Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at Consol Energy Center as part of events leading up to the NHL Winter Classic this Saturday between Washington and Pittsburgh.

In addition to Binghamton and Syracuse visiting, the Norfolk Admirals return to Giant Center Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Tickets for this week ‚¬â„¢s games are available now at the Giant Center box office, or by calling (717) 508-BEAR.

Gordon scores first NHL goal: Right wing Andrew Gordon had a holiday season he ‚¬â„¢ll never forget. Gordon, who leads HERSHEY in goals with 16, scored his first NHL goal December 21 for Washington against New Jersey at Verizon Center. Gordon remains on recall to the Capitals as the new week begins.

First game in the win column: It took 31 games of 2010-11, but the BEARS and Norfolk Admirals finally met for the first time Sunday, with HERSHEY winning 3-1. Norfolk will return this Sunday, January 2 at 5:00 p.m. and again on March 5 and March 13. HERSHEY will not travel to Hampton Roads for the first time this season until February 15.

When last in Pittsburgh ‚¬Â¦: HERSHEY last played the Pittsburgh Hornets, the AHL forerunner to the NHL ‚¬â„¢s Pittsburgh Penguins, on April 2, 1967 at Civic Arena. Pittsburgh won the game 5-3, the final regular season game the Hornets would ever play. The Penguins would join the NHL as an expansion team in the fall of 1967.

Practice schedule: The BEARS hit the ice on Wednesday morning at Giant Center at 9:30 a.m., skating before boarding a bus to Pittsburgh. Media availability will be at approximately 10:45 a.m.

Early start time this Friday: The BEARS will host Syracuse on New Year ‚¬â„¢s Eve, with a start time of 5:00 p.m. Tickets for the game are on sale now at the Giant Center box office.

Upcoming promotions: Saturday, January 15 is Ames Services Rally Towel Night at Giant Center, with the first 6,000 fans through the gates receiving a free BEARS rally towel. Friday, January 21 is MetroBank Drawstring Backpack night, free to the first 3,000 fans.
