THE WEEK THAT WAS: Sunday, Albany 4 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 5 (Shootout) The Devils rallied late and took the Penguins to a shootout, but lost 5-4 at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The Devils earned a point towards the standings - the first time they've accomplished the feat in 10 tries against the Penguins. Nick Palmieri and Rob Davison helped Albany establish 1-0 and 2-1 leads, but Wilkes-Barre/Scranton claimed a 3-2 advantage at 5:18 of the second. Michael Swift evened things and after the Penguins went up, 4-3, Dan Kelly sent the game into OT with his first career goal midway through the third.
Jeff Frazee made 30 saves on 34 shots, but was beat three-out-of-four times in the shootout. Brad Thiessen earned the win with 25 saves, including three in the shootout. Bryan Lerg led the Penguins with a pair of goals.
NOTABLES: -- Vladimir Zharkov was recalled by New Jersey on Monday. Zharkov, who played 40 games in the NHL last season, has appeared in 29 games for Albany. He leads the team for assists (11) and is tied for first for points (18). In his last 12 AHL games, he has produced eight points (3g-5a). If Zharkov plays for New Jersey, he will be the 15th Devil to compete at both the AHL and NHL level this season. -- Michael Swift extended is point streak to four games and his goal streak to three games with a tally at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Sunday. During the four-game stretch, Swift has three goals and an assist. He is second on the team with nine goals and third with 15 points. -- Chad Wiseman continues to have an impact on the score sheet. In the seven games he has played this season, he has produced five points with a goal and four assists. He leads the team for points-per-game with a 0.71 mark. -- Albany has netted a team-high four goals in 10 games this season, going 6-3-0-1 in those games. Four of those outings have gone to overtime and two were decided in a shootout. -- The Devils are 5-1-0-0 when leading after the two periods, 5-4-0-0 when tied after two and 2-12-0-1 when trailing after two. -- The Devils are one of five teams in the AHL that haven't suffered an overtime loss. This season, the team is 2-0 in OT and 3-1 in the shootout. Brad Mills scored the game-winning goal at Adirondack on Oct. 16 and Vladimir Zharkov won it at Norfolk on Dec. 17. Both games were 4-3.

NEXT UP: Tuesday, Devils vs. Bridgeport (7:00 p.m.) The Sound Tigers are coming off a 4-0 loss to Connecticut on Sunday, but are 6-3-0-1 in their last 10 outings. Overall, Bridgeport is in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with a 15-14-1-2 record. The team has struggled on the road, going 3-9-0-2. Rookie Rhett Rakhshani leads the team with 29 points behind 10 goals and 19 assists. He is averaging 0.94 points-per-game.
Friday, Devils at Binghamton (6:05 p.m.) These two teams are meeting for the third time this season. Albany won, 4-3, at home on Nov. 27, but lost, 5-0, on the road on Dec. 10. The Senators are fifth in the East Division with a 15-13-2-2 record and are coming off a 7-1 victory against Adirondack on Sunday. Corey Locke is second in the AHL with 29 points thanks to 11 goals and 29 assists.
Saturday, Devils at Adirondack (7:00 p.m.) Round four of the Time Warner Cable Cup series brings in the New Year. The Devils are 2-1 against the Phantoms this season, including a 4-3 win in Atlantic City on Dec. 5. Adirondack, which is last in the East Division with a 6-24-2-0, is under the direction of Joe Paterson, who was named head coach on Dec. 20. The Phantoms are led by rookie Erik Gustafsson's 26 points - including a team team-high 22 assists.
Sunday, Devils vs. Syracuse (4:00 p.m.) The Crunch are one point ahead of the Devils in the East Division with an 11-16-1-3 record - good enough for 26 points. In its last outing, Syracuse lost at Rochester, 5-2, on Sunday. The club will play Adirondack, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Hershey and Rochester before meeting Albany for the fourth time this season. Trevor Smith leads the team with 20 points, including seven goals and a team-best 13 assists.
