Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Oklahoma City - The Edmonton Oilers, parent club of the Oklahoma City Barons, recalled defenseman Jeff Petry, Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini announced today.

Petry, a 6-3, 200-pounder from Farmington Hills, Mich. is skating in his first season as a pro. He currently sits fifth on the team in scoring with 21 points (7-14-21). His 21 points put him seventh in the American Hockey League among defensemen and ninth in the league among first-year players. Among first-year defensemen, he trails only Adirondack's Erik Gustafsson in scoring. The Oilers' second-round pick (45th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft played the previous four seasons with Michigan State University. He is expected to join the Oilers in time for their home game tomorrow against the Buffalo Sabres.

After seven days of rest between games, the Barons return to their schedule with five games in a six-day period. That stretch starts at home tomorrow against the Texas Stars at 7:05 p.m. It's $1 beer night with the Barons as $1 draws of Coors Light and Miller Lite are available through the end of the second intermission. Following two road games December 29 and 31 against San Antonio, the Barons return home for a pair against the Rockford IceHogs on January 1 and 2.

Tickets start as low as $10 for all Barons games. The $10 tickets are available two hours prior to faceoff of any home game at the Cox Convention Center box office and are subject to availability.

NOTE: Several Edmonton Oilers prospects are playing in tournaments all over the world. Barons goaltender Jeff Deslauriers (day-lori-ay) is skating with Team Canada. The Spengler Cup, played in Davos, Switzerland, is considered the oldest invitational hockey tournament in the world. Deslauriers won his first game at the Spengler Cup as Team Canada downed Spartak Moscow 6-1.

Five Oilers draft choices are taking part in the World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo, New York. Goaltender Olivier Roy is joined by Curtis Hamilton on Team Canada's roster. Forward Anton Lander is skating with Team Sweden, Toni Rajala is skating with Team Finland and Martin Marincin is skating with Team Slovakia.

The World Junior Championship is contested each year and features the best players under the age of 20 from the nations that qualify. Last year, Edmond native Matt Donovan won a gold medal as a member of Team USA in the World Junior Championship.
