MANCHESTER, New Hampshire - The Manchester Monarchs, in conjunction with the New Hampshire branch of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, today announced that team President Jeff Eisenberg will serve as the Honorary Chair of the second annual Granite Gala, to be held on Friday, May 30 at the C.R. Sparks Event Center in Bedford, New Hampshire. Proceeds from the event, which exceeded $200,000 last year, will help fund research to find a cure for Juvenile (Type 1) Diabetes.

"A key element in the mission of the Monarchs is to help improve our community whenever possible," said Eisenberg, whose organization developed the Monarchs Care Foundation, a charitable arm that generated over $210,000 in funds last year. "The Monarchs look forward to assisting JDRF in its search for a cure for diabetes, and we encourage other area businesses and individuals to lend their support."

"We are excited to be working with Jeff and the Monarchs organization on this fundraiser," said Judy Havenstein, Board President of the JDRF-NH branch. "We approached Jeff because of his reputation as a visionary business leader who also gives a great deal of time and energy to help various children's charities.

In just the first few weeks of working on this project, he has done wonders in rallying corporate support for our cause."

The Gala Host Committee includes Jeffrey S. Bartlett, Vice President and General Manager of WMUR-TV; Timothy Bechert, General Manager of Verizon Wireless Arena; Barry Brensinger, CEO of Lavallee/Brensinger Architects; Alyson Pitman Giles, President and CEO of Catholic Medical Center; Walter Havenstein, President of BAE Systems; J. Michael Hickey, President of Verizon-NH; Dean Kamen (last year's Gala Honoree), President of DEKA Research and Development; Gary M. O'Neil, President of O'Neil Griffin Bodi; Joseph W. McQuaid, President and Publisher of Union Leader Corporation; and Joseph Reilly, President and CEO of Centrix Bank.

Juvenile (Type 1) Diabetes, usually diagnosed in childhood, is a disease that stems from the body's inability to produce insulin. Untreated, diabetics can quickly go into seizure and life-threatening coma. Daily insulin injections are not a cure-only a survival mechanism for a disease that can cause blindness, heart disease, kidney failure, stroke, nerve damage and amputations.

Committed parents founded JDRF 30 years ago, and since then, it has provided over $600 million for research. Eighty-five percent of every dollar raised by JDRF goes directly to research and education, largely because the organization's efforts are still volunteer-powered.
