FRIDAY'S PREVIEW: The Checkers will be back home following a season-long, six-game roadtrip for two straight games, beginning Friday night when they'll host the Dayton Bombers at Cricket Arena. Friday's game will be the only time the two teams will meet this season, and is one of only three games this season against Northwest Division foes. The Bombers, in last place in the Northwest Division, begin this week with a ten game winless streak at 0-8-2. Ryan Vince leads Dayton in scoring with 24g, 24a for 48 pts. The Bombers have used a league-high 47 players so far this season.

SATURDAY'S PREVIEW: The Checkers will meet the Renegades for the seventh of nine meetings this season, and the fourth in five at Cricket Arena. Charlotte is battling Richmond for one of the final playoff spots in the Northeast Division. The Renegades begin the week with a five-game winning streak, and are just one point behind the Checkers in the division with 63 points. Daniel Goneau (23g, 45a for 48pts) and Lars Petersen (22g, 46a, for 48pts) lead the Renegades in scoring. Friday night Richmond begins a season-long, nine-game roadtrip in Roanoke. Two of the nine games will be in Charlotte. The last game between the two teams was an 8-0 Charlotte win at Cricket Arena on Feb 14.

CHECKERS CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC - The Checkers players and coaches and a host of sports celebrities will be on the links Tuesday, March 4 to participate in the Charlotte Checkers First Annual Charity Golf Classic at Emerald Lake Golf Club. Tee-off time is 11:00 a.m. Proceeds from the tournament will go to Checkmate Charities, the new charity foundation of the Checkers. The charities who will benefit from the March 4 Checkers Charity Golf Classic will include local youth hockey, "Make A Wish," and a Native American youth hockey association in the hometown of Checkers' player Konrad McKay, in Wabowden, Manitoba. CHECKERS RECENT MOVES AND TRANSACTIONS: Wednesday, February 26 - The Checkers traded right wing Vince Malts to the Augusta Lynx for forward/defenseman Doug Christiansen, and future considerations which will include a player to be named later. Wednesday, February 26 - The NHL's Phoenix Coyotes assigned goaltender Colin Zulianello to the Checkers.

NEWS AND NOTES:

The Checkers went 4-2-0 on their recently completed six-game roadtrip.

Charlotte has won three of its last four games and four of its last five.

Checkers are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games.

The Checkers are 5-0 in shootouts this season.

Checkers defenseman Nick Bilotto is ninth in scoring by defensemen in the ECHL with 12g, 29a, for 41pts. Kurt Seher is 18th in the league with 8g, 27a, for 35pts.

Checkers defenseman Chad Wilchynski improved his club-high plus / minus to a +17.

Goalie Scott Meyer went 3-0 last week with one shutout, a 2.45 GAA and .929 save percentage. Meyer enters this week as the fourth best goaltender in the ECHL with a 2.62 GAA, .917 save percentage and 17-5-0 record.

Rookie right wing Brandon Cullen scored three goals in four games last week, including one game-winning goal.
