LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

At Springfield (11/21): Three unanswered goals in the third period carried the Springfield Falcons over the Manchester Monarchs 4-1 at the MassMutual Center on Wednesday night. Center Matt Ryan scored the lone Monarchs goal. The Falcons collected tallies from center Patrick Thoresen, left wing Ben Simon and center Fredrik Johansson. Monarchs goaltender Dan Cloutier took the loss stopping 16 shots. Falcons netminder Jeff Deslauriers earned the win with 33 saves. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Springfield was 1-for-2 with the man advantage.

Vs. Worcester (11/23): Defenseman Derek Joslin's first professional goal proved to be the game-winner as the Worcester Sharks defeated the Manchester Monarchs 3-1 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Monarchs defenseman Peter Harrold scored the lone power play goal for Manchester. Joslin's goal was accompanied by forward T.J. Fox's second of the season and right wing Ashton Rome's third tally of the season. Monarchs goaltender Dan Cloutier stopped 17-of-20 shots in the loss. Sharks netminder Dimitri Patzold turned aside 28 shots. Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

At Portland (11/24): Center Stephen Dixon scored the game-winning goal 16-seconds into overtime to give the Portland Pirates a 5-4 overtime win over the Manchester Monarchs at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Saturday night. Manchester scored two power play goals by defensemen Brian Boyle and Peter Harrold, a shorthanded goal by left wing Jeff Giuliano and a second tally of the night by Harrold. The Pirates answered back with goals by right wing Bobby Ryan, defenseman Brian Salcido, center Jason King and Dixon's second of the night. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Quick made his AHL debut by stopping 24-of-29 shots in the loss. Pirates netminder Gerald Coleman made 22 saves for his third win of the season. Manchester went 2-for-5 on the power play. Portland was 2-for-6 with the man advantage.

At Providence (11/25): Goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped 34 shots for his first AHL win as the Manchester Monarchs topped the Providence Bruins 5-1 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday evening. Defenseman Peter Harrold added two tallies to his five goal weekend for the Monarchs. Defenseman Troy Milam scored his fourth goal of the season, center Patrick Jarrett collected his first AHL goal of his career and center David Meckler added a shorthanded goal for the Monarchs. Bruins defenseman Brett Skinner ended Quick's shutout bid at 17:33 of the third period with his second goal of the season. Bruins goaltender Mike Brown made seven saves in his first loss of the season before being replaced by netminder Ryan Nie in the first period. Nie turned aside 10 of the 12 shots he faced. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Monarchs (7-9-2-1) are in sixth place in the Atlantic Division with 17 points.

The Monarchs power play sits atop the AHL with a 27.0-percentage and the penalty kill is in 29th place with 75.0-percent.

The Monarchs have the best home power play record as they have scored 17 goals on 51 opportunities at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Manchester has scored seven power play tallies on the road for ninth place in the league.

12 of the 19 Monarchs games thus far this season have been determined by one goal. The Monarchs are 5-4-2-1 in one goal games, 1-3-0-0 in two goal games, 0-2-0-0 in three goal games and 1-0-0-0 in four goal games.

Manchester is 4-1-1-0 when leading after the first period and 4-1-0-0 when leading after the second period.

When scoring first in the game, the Monarchs are 5-2-2-0.

The best days of the week for the Monarchs to play on are Saturday and Sunday. The team is 4-2-1-1 in eight Saturday games this season and 2-0-1-0 in three Sunday games. On Wednesdays, the Monarchs have a record of 0-1-0-0. Manchester is 1-6-0-0 on Fridays thus far this season.

Right wing Teddy Purcell (7-20=27) leads the Monarchs with 27 points in 19 games.

Purcell has scored at least one point in 15-of-19 games this season.

Purcell's 25 points lead both the overall AHL in scoring and the rookies.

His 20 assists are ranked first in the AHL in that category and also rank first among rookies.

Purcell's four power play goals are tied for fourth among AHL rookies.

Purcell's seven goals are also tied for fifth among AHL rookies.

His 12 assists on the power play rank first in the AHL.

Center Gabe Gauthier (7-18=25) is ranked second on the Monarchs squad with 25 points.

Gauthier's 18 assists also rank second on the Monarchs.

Gauthier has scored at least one point in 16-of-19 games this season.

Gauthier's 25 points rank third in the AHL.

Gauthier's 18 assists are also tied for second in the AHL in that category.

10 of Gauthier's 18 assists this season have come on the power play which ties him for fifth place in the AHL for power play assists.

Gauthier's six power play goals are tied for third place in the AHL among power play tallies.

Two of Gauthier's seven goals are game-winning goals which tie him for seventh place in the league for game-winners.

Defenseman Peter Harrold leads Monarchs blueliners with 21 points (6-15=21) in 18 games.

12 of Harrold's 15 assists have come on the power play which ties him for second in the AHL for power play assists.

The second year defenseman is also ranked first among defensemen with 21 points and 15 assists.

Harrold's six goals are tied for third among defensemen.

Overall, Harrold is tied for ninth in the AHL with his 21 points.

Harrold and defenseman Joe Piskula's plus-3 in Sunday's game is a Monarchs season high for an individual's plus/minus in one game.

Defenseman Brian Boyle is ranked fourth on the Monarchs squad this season, tied for fifth place among AHL defensemen and tied for eighth place among AHL rookies with 15 points (7-8=15).

Boyle also ranks first among both AHL rookies and defensemen with 64 shots on goal this season.

Boyle's four power play goals are tied for first among defensemen and tied for fourth among rookies.

The rookie defenseman's two game-winning goals are tied for first among both defensemen and rookies.

Boyle's seven goals are tied for first among AHL defensemen and tied for fifth place with the rookies.

Left wing Jeff Giuliano scored the Monarchs first shorthanded goal of the season and his first tally of the year on Saturday in Manchester's 5-4 overtime loss to the Portland Pirates. Center David Meckler scored the team's second shorthanded goal the following day against the Providence Bruins.

Right wing Kevin Westgarth is tied for 11th place in the AHL in penalty minutes with 66 in 17 games and is ranked first among rookies. He has eight major penalties that rank first among rookies.

Rookie goaltender Jonathan Quick (1-1-0) collected his first AHL win in Sunday's 5-1 victory over the Bruins.

Quick also set new season records for the most saves in a game by a goaltender with 34 saves on 35 shots on Sunday and the most saves in a period with 17 saves on 17 shots in the second period of Sunday's game against Providence.

Monarchs Assist Youth Hockey Practice - Monarchs defensemen Drew Bagnall and Richard Petiot will assist with the Jr. Monarchs youth hockey practice at Tri-Town Ice Arena on Tuesday, November 27 from 7:30-10:30 p.m.
