Defenseman Mathieu Roy Sent To Springfield

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that defenseman Mathieu Roy has been assigned to the Falcons on a conditioning stint from their National Hockey League affiliate, the Edmonton Oilers. Roy is expected to join the Falcons on Tuesday as they prepare for their game on Wednesday night in Providence against the Bruins.

Roy is in his fifth professional season and has played in four games with the Oilers this season and is scoreless with five penalty minutes. Roy has missed Edmonton's last nine games after suffering a separated shoulder back on November 2 against Nashville. The 6-foot-2, 214-pound native of St. Georges, Quebec split last season between the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs and Edmonton. In 162 career games in the AHL, Roy has 12 goals and 52 assists for 64 points and 236 penalty minutes seeing time in the AHL with Hamilton, Edmonton and Toronto. In 21 career NHL games all with the Oilers, he has two goals and 35 penalty minutes.

The Falcons also announced on Monday that defenseman Brad Farynuk has been reassigned to their ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder. Farynuk was originally recalled by Springfield on November 20 and made his debut with Springfield on November 24 at Norfolk not collecting a point.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday, November 28 when they head to Providence for a match-up against the Bruins at the Dunkin Donuts Center.
