LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Providence (10/14): The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Providence Bruins 1-0 in front of a crowd of 7,315 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Defenseman Matt Lashoff scored the lone goal in the game for the Bruins. Monarchs goaltender Jason LaBarbera stopped 21 shots for his first loss of the season. Bruins goaltender Brian Finley earned the shutout with 27 saves. Manchester went 0-for-6 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

Portland (10/15): The Portland Pirates narrowly edged the Manchester Monarchs, 5-4, at the Verizon Wireless Arena in front of 5,621 fans on Sunday evening. Left wing Noah Clarke scored a pair of goals and left wings Ned Lukacevic and Petr Kanko scored late in the third for the Monarchs. The Pirates collected tallies from forward Ryan Carter, right wing Colby Genoway, center Tim Brent, defenseman Brett Skinner and left wing Bjorn Melin. Goaltender Mike Wall collected the win for the Pirates with 18 saves while Barry Brust took the loss for the Monarchs stopping 21 shots. Manchester went 3-for-7 on the power play. Portland was 2-for-7 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS

10/13/06: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) signed defenseman T.J. Kemp to a professional tryout agreement.
10/11/06: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) assigned goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji to the ECHL's Reading Royals.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Monarchs (1-2-0-0) sit tied for fourth place in the Atlantic Division with two points in three games. Left wing Noah Clarke collected two power play goals and one assist against the Portland Pirates on Sunday to bring him to four points (3-1=4) on the season and tied with defenseman Eric Werner as the scoring leaders on the Monarchs squad. Clarke ranks fourth on the Monarchs all-time goals list with 64 in 207 career games. His 21 power play goals rank second all-time.

Werner leads the team in assists with four in three games. Right wing John Zeiler tallied his first two professional points with a goal and an assist against the Worcester Sharks on Saturday, October 7, 2006. Both points came on the power play. Left wing Jeff Giuliano scored the first goal of the 2006-07 season.

Giuliano, Zeiler and defenseman Joey Mormina lead the team with a plus/minus of plus-1. Defenseman Doug Nolan's four penalty minutes on Saturday night pushed him to 301 all-time Monarchs penalty minutes.

The Monarchs power play is ranked fourth in the league as the team has six goals on 23 attempts with the man advantage for 26.1%.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Youth Hockey - Center Gabe Gauthier and right wing Konstantin Pushkarev will be assisting the Manchester Flames Mite 1, Squirt 1, Squirt 2 and Pee Wee 2 youth hockey practices at the West Side Arena on Monday, October 16 from 4:15-7:00 p.m.

Youth Hockey - Left wing Lauri Tukonen and defenseman Peter Harrold will be assisting the Manchester Flames Pee Wee 1 and Pee Wee 3 youth hockey practices at the JFK Coliseum on Tuesday, October 17 from 4:15-5:30 p.m.

Open Practice - The Monarchs will be practicing at St. Anselm College from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18. The team will be available following practice to sign autographs for fans.
