WEEK IN REVIEW

Friday, Oct. 13: Phantoms 3, Manitoba 0 - Rejean Beauchemin made a triumphant return to his hometown of Winnipeg, making 30 saves to record his first professional shutout in a 3-0 win over Manitoba. The Phantoms held a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period on goals from David Printz and Mark Cullen, and it stood up throughout the rest of the night. Daniel Corso added an empty-netter with 1:24 remaining. Beauchemin's win was his first of the season, while Wade Flaherty took the loss with 21 saves on 23 shots. It was Philadelphia's first ever win over Manitoba, coming in the fifth game all-time between the teams.

Saturday, Oct. 14: Manitoba 2, Phantoms 1 - Philadelphia received its first loss of the young season, 2-1 to the Moose, on Saturday night. Mike Keane gave Manitoba a 1-0 lead at the first intermission, one that was erased by Stefan Ruzicka earlier in the third period. But Nathan Smith scored the game winner later in the third on the power play. The Phantoms were outshot 29-13 on the night, mustering only three shots in the first and two in the third. Martin Houle took the loss, while Flaherty picked up his first win of the season.

Sunday, Oct. 15: Phantoms 4, Binghamton 3, SO - The line of Stefan Ruzicka, Mark Cullen and Tony Voce played a hand in all three goals for the Phantoms Sunday night in a 4-3 shootout win over the Binghamton Senators in a back-and-forth affair at the Wachovia Center. John Slaney, Voce and Ruzicka scored for Philadelphia, while Grant Potulny, Brian Maloney and Jeff Heerema produced the scoring for Binghamton. Playing in a relief role, Rejean Beauchemin earned the win with 23 regulation saves and a four-save shutout in the shootout session.

UPCOMING OPPONENTS

Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21 - Phantoms at Norfolk: The Phantoms embark on a two-game voyage to Norfolk this weekend to play the Admirals (Chicago Blackhawks) at Norfolk Scope. The Admirals were in Philadelphia on Opening Night, a thriller the Phantoms won 5-4 in overtime on the strength of a natural hat trick from Stefan Ruzicka. Norfolk has played just two games since then and has won both of them, giving the club a 2-0-1 record for five points and putting them in third place in the East Division, right behind the Phantoms and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The games are the first two of a four-game road swing for the Phantoms. The next home game is Sunday. Oct. 29 at 7:05 vs. Hershey at the Wachovia Center. Tickets for that game, as well as all Phantoms regular season games, are now available! As always, kids tickets for all Phantoms games are just $8.00. Purchase online at phantomshockey.com or to charge by phone, call 1-800-298-4200.

RUZICKA NOMINATED FOR AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

For the second consecutive week, Stefan Ruzicka has been nominated for the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week Award. Ruzicka posted a five-point weekend with two goals and three assists, giving him five goals and four assists for nine points on the year. That ties him for the league scoring lead with Mathieu Darche of Worcester and Blake Comeau of Bridgeport.

PHANTOMS NOTABLES

The line of Tony Voce, Mark Cullen and Stefan Ruzicka played a part in all three regulation goals for the Phantoms in Sunday's 4-3 shootout win over Binghamton. That line was also on the ice for two goals on Friday and for the lone goal on Saturday, making them involved in six of Philadelphia's seven goals this weekend... the individual numbers for that line: Cullen 1-4-5 +1; Voce 2-1-3 +3; Ruzicka 2-3-5, +1... Ruzicka and Cullen have scored a point in all four games this season... The Phantoms mustered 13 shots on goal in Saturday's game at Manitoba, which is a new franchise record for fewest shots in a road game. After flying home on Sunday morning, the Phantoms surpassed that total in just 20 minutes with 14 first-period shots.
