Binghamton Senators News Release
LAST WEEK: Binghamton was 0-3 last week, losing two shootouts on the road.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13TH @ ROCHESTER (1-2 SOL):
Defenseman CHARLIE COOK netted his first marker of the season, a power-play goal, to give Binghamton their lone goal of the defensive contest at 12:58 of the second period. It was the first goal in 49 games for COOK. Defenseman TOMAS MALEC and left wing BRIAN MALONEY assisted. Goalie KELLY GUARD stopped 25 of 26 shots for the Senators, holding Rochester scoreless through the first two periods. Right wing RYAN VESCE collected a shootout marker, but it was not enough as Rochester defenseman FRANKLIN MACDONALD and right wing DREW STAFFORD each collected shootout markers to give the Amerks the victory. Binghamton out shot Rochester 31-27 and went 6/6 on the penalty kill.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14th vs. ROCHESTER (2-3 L):
Rookie center ANDREW EBBETT scored his first two professional points (1g, 1a). After the Amerks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, EBBETT scored his first marker of the year at 10:19 of the first to even the score. Defenseman ANDY HEDLUND assisted on the strike. Rochester built a 3-1 lead with goals from DREW STAFFORD and MICHAEL RYAN, but the Senators struck back as leading scorer JEFF HEEREMA collected his fourth marker of the season at 16:17 of the third to bring the Sens within striking distance at 3-2. The goal was HEEREMA'S 105th AHL marker. Goalie KELLY GUARD had 21 saves in the losing effort. Rookie goalie ADAM DENNIS had the Senators number, as he turned away 40 of 42 shots in his professional debut for Rochester. Binghamton blanked on the power play, going 0 for 4 with a man advantage.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15th vs. PHILADELPHIA (3-4 SOL): Center GRANT POTULNY gave Binghamton a 1-0 lead at 8:11 of the first period with his second marker of the season. Winger CORY PECKER collected his first point of the season, assisting on the POTULNY goal. Left wing BRIAN MALONEY found the net for the first time this season late in the second to tie the game at 2 all. ANDY HEDLUND and SERGE PAYER assisted on the game-tying goal. It was PAYER'S first point of the year and his first AHL point since the 2004-05 season as he spent all of 2005-06 in the NHL. The Senators leading scorer JEFF HEEREMA netted his fifth marker of the season at 7:31 of the third to give Binghamton a 3-2 lead. HEDLUND collected his second assist of the night, and left wing ARTTU LUTTINEN his second assist of the season. Phantom right winger STEFAN RUZICKA scored his fifth goal of the season to rip the lead away from Binghamton late in the third. After a scoreless overtime, Binghamton blanked in the shootout session. Philadelphia collected shootout markers from center MARK CULLEN and left wing DENIS TOLPEKO to close the door on the Senators. Goalie JEFF GLASS played excellent in defeat, turning away 40 Phantom shots.
THIS WEEK: Binghamton (1-2-0-2) travels to Springfield on Saturday, Oct. 21 for a 7:05 game against the Falcons (1-2-0-0). The Senators then head to Portland on Sunday, Oct. 22 to battle the Pirates (3-0-0-0) at 4:05. Binghamton will plays five consecutive road games before their next home game on Friday, Nov. 3 against Bridgeport.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21st @ SPRINGFIELD (7:05): The Senators went 2-0-0-0 against Springfield last season, to bring their all-time record to 8-5-0-1-0 against the Falcons. Binghamton has won three straight against the Falcons.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 22nd @ PORTLAND (4:05): The Senators went 1-1-0-0 against Portland last season, to bring their all-time record to 2-2-0-0-0 against the Pirates. Binghamton has lost two in a row at Portland.
SENS IN THE COMMUNITY: Teen Read Week (Oct. 15-21) at the Broome County Library will hold a reading from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19. Several players will be in attendance to read passages to teens. Teen Read Week⢠is a national literacy initiative aimed at teens, their parents, librarians and educators.
The Binghamton Senators second annual Charity Golf Classic, held at Endwell Greens on Tuesday, was a huge success as the event raised $13,000 for Family Enrichment Network. The money raised at this year's event nearly tripled the $5,000 raised last year.
Ticket packages and individual tickets for this season can be purchased at the Sens' front office on the third floor of the Arena. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 722-SENS.
