Manchester Monarchs News Release

READING, Pa. - A three-goal second period and 38 saves by Jack Flinn propelled the Manchester Monarchs past the Reading Royals, 3-2, Friday night at Santander Arena.

The Monarchs (31-16-6-4) improved their record against the Royals (32-21-1-2) to 7-1-0-0 on the season.

The Royals drew first blood when Ryan Penny scored his 20th goal of the year at 15:44 of the opening period. Jesper Pettersson sent a shot on Flinn that was stopped, but the rebound trickled into the slot where Penny slid the puck through the five-hole of the Monarchs goaltender to put the Royals up, 1-0.

The Monarchs tied things up when Quentin Shore netted his 17th goal of the season at 9:48 of the second period. Derek Arnold sent a long-distance shot on goal that Royals goaltender, Martin Ouellette, couldn't handle with his glove, and the rebound trickled into the slot. Kevin Morris found the loose puck and sent a sneaky back-handed pass to a wide-open Shore who had nothing but net to shoot into with Ouellette down-and-out to make the score, 1-1.

Reading took their lead back when Mike Pereira netted his 14th goal of the year at 13:59 while on the power play. Pereira took the puck from the bottom of the right circle, curled to the dot on his forehand and fired a wrister over the glove of Flinn to put the Royals up, 2-1.

Kevin Morris brought the Monarchs back to even when he potted his 13th goal of the season at 17:05 of the second period. Morris was sprung on a breakaway by a clearing attempt by Arnold and sent a high shot on Ouellette that the goaltender stopped, but the rebound popped into the air where Morris batted the puck into the empty net to tie the game, 2-2.

The Monarchs took their first lead of the game with 7.1 seconds remaining in the second stanza when David Kolomatis scored his 5th goal of the season. Kolomatis took a diagonal pass at the top of the right circle from Gasper Kopitar, where he sent a wrister past the blocker of Ouellette to give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.

The score would remain the same in the third period with Flinn making 10 saves, including a breakaway stop on Matt Willows mid-way through the period, and the Monarchs reclaimed the top spot in the North Division.

The Monarchs are back on the ice Saturday, Mar. 4 (7 p.m.) when they finish their two-game weekend series with the Reading Royals at Santander Arena.

The Monarchs return home to SNHU Arena on Friday, Mar. 10 (7 p.m.), when they host their rivals, the Adirondack Thunder, in a crucial North Division match-up. Tickets for the remainder of the season are available, HERE.

Notes Jack Flinn started for the Monarchs for the first time since Nov. 11 Joey Diamond recorded the 125th point of his career Kevin Morris scored the 15th goal of his career
