Game Day Storylines- at Rapid City

March 3, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

Steel Reel

After earning their third shutout win of the season on Wednesday, the Idaho Steelheads are back in action on Friday night at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center for the middle game of their three-game set with the Rapid City Rush. The Steelheads have won five of the first six games on their season-long eight-game road swing, and they have won seven of their last nine games overall. Idaho has also won their last three games against the Rush in the Black Hills, with two of those wins coming via a shutout effort.

Kyle Jean scored the game's only goal on Wednesday, scoring on a wrist shot from the high slot just 7:44 into the period. Landon Bow stopped all 27 shots he faced to earn the shutout win, besting Rush goaltender Adam Morrison and his 30 saves on 31 shots. The win kept Idaho within six points of the second-place Allen Americans, with Idaho holding a game in hand.

Bow Says No...

Landon Bow responded to his first regulation loss in 11 ECHL starts by pitching his second shutout in the last three outings on Wednesday night, also the second shutout of his professional career. Bow has earned two 1-0 wins on this road trip and has stopped 96 of the last 99 shots to come his way. Bow enters the weekend ranked second in the ECHL in both goals-against average (2.21) and save percentage (.931), trailing only Allen's Riley Gill in both categories. Bow was named runner-up for ECHL Goaltender of the Month honors for February, going 5-1-1 with a 1.69 goals-against average and a .947 save percentage.

All Kinds of Kinds...

The Steelheads' are finding multiple ways to win during their road trip around the Mountain Division, with only 16 games separating them from potential playoff hockey in April. The first six games of the trip have included an 8-2 win over the Utah Grizzlies, serving as Idaho's largest margin of victory in a game this season. The Steelheads also gutted out a shootout win in Utah to improve their record in the breakaway contest to 6-2, and earned their two 1-0 shutout wins backed by Landon Bow. Last Saturday in Missouri, Idaho overcame a three-goal deficit for their largest comeback win of the season. These combined efforts have moved the Steelheads to 14-10-4 on the road, their high-water mark this season away from CenturyLink Arena.

21st Tangle...

The Steelheads and Rush have been playing regular season games against each other for the last two seasons, with Wednesday night's game marking the 20th meeting between the teams. Despite the fact that the Rush did not make the playoffs last season, and that they are currently outside the playoff picture for this spring, the Steelheads and Rapid City have always proven to be tough opponents for one another. In the first 20 meetings, the Steelheads are 11-7-2 against the Rush, and 6-5-0 at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. In those 11 games in the Black Hills, Idaho has earned a shutout on four occasions, twice this season and twice last year.
