INDIANAPOLIS, IN- The Wheeling Nailers turned the calendar over to a new month, and got a great result on Friday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Cody Wydo snapped a 2-2 tie at the 2:52 mark of overtime, wristing a wrist shot past his college teammate, Eric Levine. The 3-2 Wheeling victory over the Indy Fuel pulled the Nailers within five points of the final playoff spot in the North Division.

Goals were exchanged 3:02 apart from each other in the first period, with the Nailers striking first, before the Fuel responded. Wheeling's tally was recorded off of the rush. Christian Hilbrich entered into the offensive zone with a pass to Keevin Cutting. Alexandre Carrier drove his way into the slot, giving Cutting a passing target, which he hit, and Carrier proceeded to flick a shot into the left side of the net. Indy's answering strike came courtesy of former Nailer Josh Shalla, who dangled through the right side of the slot, then went far side, finding the bottom-left corner of the cage. With 1:46 left in the stanza, fireworks took place, as Carrier stuck up for a teammate and dropped the gloves with Michael Neal.

The middle frame followed a similar script, but in reverse order. Indy lit the lamp first at the 3:29 mark. Adam Phillips took a slap shot from the top of the right circle, which was punched out by Doug Carr, but the rebound plopped into down to the left side, where it was tapped home by Alex Wideman. With 6:03 to go, the Nailers got their equalizer. Jordan Kwas crashed through the crease with an attempt, which he followed by setting up Ross McMullan at the right point. McMullan's shot was denied, but the rebound was drilled in by Tyler Currier in his return game to Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

Wheeling poured on the pressure in the third period, but neither team was able to break the deadlock, as the contest progressed to overtime. At the 2:52 mark, the Nailers became victorious. Cody Wydo wheeled his way around the offensive zone, arriving in the left circle, where he roofed a wrist shot into the top-right corner of the goal for the 3-2 triumph.

Doug Carr got the win in goal for Wheeling, turning aside 21 of the 23 shots he faced. Eric Levine suffered the overtime loss for Indy, despite making 40 saves on 43 shots.

The Nailers will remain in the Hoosier State for the rest of the weekend, where they will face the Fort Wayne Komets on Saturday and Sunday. The next homestand at WesBanco Arena will take place on March 10th, 11th, and 12th. The 10th is a Flat Screen Friday and Frosty Friday at 7:35 against Quad City. The Mallards are the opponent on the 11th at 7:05, which is Duck Dynasty Night, starring John Godwin and Justin Martin, as well as a camouflage hat giveaway. Finally, the weekend wraps up on the 12th, which is Youth Hockey Day at 5:05 against Toledo.
